Mighty Tuna Melt - Monday, July 20, 2009 1:46 PM ( #1 )
Hey guys I've been eating this for a long time now, I picked up this recipe at a seafood restaurant I used to work at, its really healthy and filling and this is pretty much how I eat tuna, although i want to try tuna eggs haha. I have modified it a bit, and with good quality ingredients and preperation I have yet to find a restaurant that can serve a Tuna melt this good

1 can Tuna
Mayonnaise
1 celery stalk (diced, add more for more crunchiness)
few slices of onion  (diced)
Cheese (I like Swiss or mozzarella but cheddar or any cheese tastes good)
salt+pepper
2-3 slices of tomato
Lettuce (optional)
Hot Banana Peppers
Tabasco/Hot sauce
Bread (whole wheat tastes great the better quality the better it tastes)

Prep: Drain the tuna, i like to keep a little water there for moistness+flavor. Add a few spoonfuls of mayo and mix until it's slightly creamy, dice up the celery and onions and throw them in the bowl and mix around until you get the proportion you want, the more you add the crunchier it'll be. add a few dashes of salt and pepper to the mix, when its nice and mixed spread the tuna on the bread, add cheese, tomato, lettuce, peppers, sauce and you are done. Just throw it in the oven at 180 for 15 or so minutes or on a sandwich grill if you have one. you can get everything done in about 25-30 minutes, including your cleanup.

btw this Sandwich costs like 14 bucks at that restaurant =P hope u like :)

Sounds good and similar to the one I make, only no mayo and I cook on the stovetop with cooking spray and a non-stick skillet.
