Metabolism question

Are calories the only thing directly related to raising metabolism? I understand eating 5-6 times a day is very good and that keeps your metabolism up.. but are calories what makes your metabolism rise or is it something else in foods? I was wondering if there is a food that is low in calories and yet raises metabolism more than normal. thanks

Most of your metabolism (I think around 70%-80%) can not be controlled by you. Genetics plays a big role. But with the remaining 20%-30% you can have some control via your calories, activity level, and lean muscle mass which also plays a role. The more activity and more lean muscle mass the higher the metabolism. Lean muscle mass burns calories even at rest.
