Metabolic Typing

Has anybody heard of this or do they follow this at all? I've been doing it for a little while and I'm having trouble deciding what kinds of things need changing.

I was tested as a protein type. I used to follow it religiously, and I did feel really good and I was never tired, etc. But I reverted back to a regular ol' diet like 8 months ago, and I still feel good. I do get tired when I eat more carbs than I normally would, or eat certain foods. But, it's no big deal. How did you find out your metabolic type? Chek practitioner?

I use it as a general guideline, but don't follow it too closely, or you will convince yourself that certain foods you love shouldn't be eaten. Use it as a template to know what foods you respond best to, but don't worry if you don't follow a certain type completely.

There has to be some significance to it, because I am without a doubt a protein type, and I do much better when I eat along those guidelines. Much much better.

I'm sure this site is predominantly protein types. Strength training, frequent small meals, heavy meat eating, all signs of a protein type.

I used Wolcott's book to find out, but I'm going to read Paul Chek's book next too. Don't have a problem with giving up my favorite foods (wings, pizza, pasta) b/c I know they won't really do anything for me. I'm mainly confused about carbs though from a bodybuilding prospective. From my understanding, they are essential to growth, but veggies don't have that much in them and they are very low GI. Does that mean that I should eat a lot of fruit throughout the day too? Right now, I just have a banana and apple after my workout. I seem to be doing alright, I'm just not really getting any bigger.

The whole idea behind metabolic typing is that you are eating the foods that fuel your body most optimally. There are plenty of carb sources that work great for protein types, such as: beans carrots corn celery potatoes spinach mushrooms peas asparagus bananas apples pears olives most whole grains It sucks though, because for protein types pretty much the only fruit that you should eat are bananas, apples, and pears. Avocados are fruits too, and I think they are alright for protein types. So the fruit choices are limited if you stick strictly to the diet. But, feeling better and functioning better are great.
