Making shakes from real food - Wednesday, June 11, 2008 7:29 AM
OK, I feel like I should know the answer to this, but I'm just double checkin

I know real food is better than shakes blah blah blah, and I know the general reasons why, but...

Take for example I make a shake with oatmeal, banana, pb, whey, and milk.  Is there any reason that it would be better for me to actually eat everything as food versus blending it into a shake?  I just see blending as basically doing the chewing for me haha.

Also, has anyone ever made a shake with whole eggs in them?  I figure it would be gross, but who knows? maybe there's a good recipe out there...

a stomach processes food by churning motions.  i don't know if you've researched it before, but to me, it makes sense that it would have to work just a bit more for solid food than something that's already blended.

i'm with you though, it's like it's already chewed, so i wouldn't worry about it.   I feel that if you add solid foods to the blender and whiz it up, it's much more beneficial than say.. just a protein powder.  i think that's the main point.

i've never tried eggs in a shake. but you get MUCH more benefit/nutrients from them if they are heated up.  something to do with the albumin or somethin' like that.  it's been discussed many times
Pumping the iron, moving the lead.  I hope all the attention I get doesn't go to my head.

Yeah, I thought about that too, but people also stress the importance of chewing your food up as much as possible before swallowing, so then I thought the more blended up it is, the better haha.  That's what got me confused.

"drink your food and chew your water"

it would be better to blend all of your food, it just doesn't taste as good and isn't appetizing

I actually could prob handle most of it.  I eat so slowly it would be worth the time save to make a chicken/brown rice/brocolli shake, just don't know if I could stomach it.
