Making meals in advance (for cutting) - Monday, October 19, 2009 5:26 PM ( #1 )
I'm a very busy college student, so I rarely have time to sit down and prepare a meal the right way. So every Sunday night, I'm going to prepare all of the food I need for the week ahead and put it in the fridge. This leads to a couple questions:

I want to scramble eggs Sunday night. I'll make 2 dozen, which I'll eat 4 for breakfast every day Mon-Sat. I'll also eat two packets of instant oatmeal and a glass of orange juice or V8 vegetable juice.

If I scramble the eggs early and toss them in the fridge so I could simply microwave them later, will this be fine? Will they last for a week in the fridge already cooked, and will keeping them in there so long have a negative effect on their nutritional value?

Throughout the day, I will also be eating 3 sandwiches that I will prepare and put in plastic bags so I can take them with me. Each sandwich is on 100% whole wheat bread, with chicken breast lunch meat, provolone cheese, and light mayo. I'll also be drinking about 1.5 liters of water throughout the day.

Then comes my workout, where I'll consume my protein and creatine.

Finally, for dinner, I will eat a can of tuna, brown rice, and anything else healthy I can get my hands on.

So that being my diet, will this work well for cutting?? Any recommendations? Also, anyone else prepare food in advance? Any tips? I would LOVE to cook mass amounts of grilled chicken and throw them in the freezer, but I'm not allowed to have a grill in my dorm :(

I would make meals Sunday and Wednesday so stuff does not get old and nasty. It really depends on how picky you are. I wouldn't eat week old scrambled eggs, thats just me. Eggs get kinda rubbery when you reheat them in the microwave, again this is all what you can handle eating. You could do hard boiled eggs, those would last longer.

Get a foreman grill for your chicken if you want something semi-grilled lol. Also don't forget about the veggies!

I agree with redjeep. I think eggs suck after about 2 days. Cooking on Sunday and a day mid week wouldnt be a bad idea.

I prepare food in advance but usually the night before like sandwiches and cut up fruit and vegetables. Some times I make a big soup with chicken broth, milk chicken and lots of veggies and eat on that for a couple days.

Your diet looks pretty good I think as long as your burning more calories than you are taking in you will lose weight.

Alright, sounds good. What kind of veggies would you guys recommend??

Also, do you think that three sandwiches, that's six slices of 100% whole wheat bread a day, do you think that's too many carbs for a cut?

i make all my food on sunday for lunch for the week (i eat twice at work when there everyday).

i eat a ton of broccoli.

the amount of carbs needed for a cut is dependent upon your personal requirements.

what are your stats?  that is a good start.  once you let us know we can discuss possible breakdown of macros that would be needed, or atleast give a general idea.

Well right now I'm 5'8" tall and ~200lbs. I don't know my body fat, but I have sufficient muscle. I rep 195lbs on bench, 3x10, if that gives you an idea of where I'm at.
