Lower Back Muscle Injury (What To Do Thread) - Thursday, June 24, 2004 9:01 PM
What Happen:

Alrighty so a month ago or so I started wrestling with my friend, not warmed up, no stretching, nothing at all. I seemed to pull something and stopped right away. The next morning it was my day off from working out anyways so no biggie. Through out next 2 weeks the left lower back right next to the spine would be soar and the next work out go away. So 2 weeks later its my back day and I made a decision to hit it extra hard, after 45minutes into the work out I am almost done and I have 4 pull ups left so I jump up by the second one sharp pain and I cant bend over! Aggghhhh ***** not again!!

What To Do:

Make sure you stop working out right that minute!!! I am serious this is my second back injury and because I was stubborn with my first one i was in therapy for 6 months. Not fun believe me. Get home and ice it. Go to the docs or couple days later see if you can bend over with out SHARP pain, yes it can hurt, really soar but not to the point where you cant bend over (Now thats bad). Make sure its not in the middle or youre spine. Should be a little bit to the left or to the right which is probably just a muscle. Which is GOOD because its most likely not your disk.

Now what you need to do is....

1) Take 1800mg of IBUPROFEN every 24 hours for 7 days. (3 pills should be 600mg every 8 hours)
It is very important that you don't miss one doze here or there, MAKE SURE to take 1800mg every 24 hours.

2) Go to the store and buy 2 large bags of peas, throw it in the freezer and use it instead of ice... easier to do.

3) Apply ice first (Bag of peas) to slow the swelling and then heat later (Hot shower or a bath for 30minutes) to increase circulation.

4) Restrict your self from working that area but make sure to keep doing your daily routines, like walking, standing and so on. Try not to run.

A week later go see a your Doctor.
