The low carb craze has claimed yet another victim... pasta. What will they think of next?

Even better, I read in the paper today that Burpee's and the other seed catalog companies are getting phone calls from gardeners who want to grow low-carb vegetables....

Low carb pasta was actually one of the first low carb items I remember seeing... And it made me very sad, because I loves my pasta (though I love it in whole wheat these days), and if you take the arbs out of it... well, it just ain't pasta. That's like taking the lemons out of lemonade and calling it low-sour lemonade...

Ya....that's like the other day I went into a Subway and orderd their new chicken spinach salad..(fine print: ti's supposed to be an Atkins salad)....anyhoo, I don't subscribe to the Atkins way...i just was thinking...spinach, high in iron...chicken, good source of protein and I can load up that baby whatever way i want.....well the lad serving it up asks me if i want egg on there as well...sure more protein...it's all good...asks me if i wanted to fix it up the Atkins way or did I want additonal veggies....well i said sure I'd like tomatoes....and he immediately stopped me in mid sentence and had this look of warning on his face..he says" I have to tell you, before we go any further here...this is an Atkins salad, and to be adding tomatoes is not in the Atkins plan" I laughed loudly and said to young man not to worry I'm not following Atkins and where I come from tomatoes are 'good' for you..another employees laughs and says to him...does she look like she needs to be on the Atkins diet?...in the next breath he's asking me if I want any BACON on my salad....I'm really enjoying this now and say what about a pound of butter on the side as well.....long story short...i couldn't believe that tomatoes are now not considered healthy, but bacon IS!!...Only if you want to be a good looking corpse, lol!!Smile

That is that skit that Mike found and posted in the Star-schmucks thread in this forum. So sick of Atkins! My bro in law has the same issues. He's at work.. people whining they can't eat an apple. It's insane. And it's a massive million dollar market. It is really stunning sometimes to see just how far of a reach that plan has. It's huge!

sorry to go off topic, but just in case i run into a "low carb fruit" that decides to argue with me about how unhealthy an apple is...
i just wanted to make sure..
carbs are only bad for you if you eat them, and not use up the energy they provide right? and if you don't use them, they become stored as fat...

Anything can be stored as fat if the body doesn't use it. Go on too much of a bulking diet and you'll end up gaining more fat then muscle.

Thinking all carbs are the same is where the problem lies.

Snicker's Bar is a carb. So is a sweet potato. One is a simple sugar that will spike your insulin and tell your body to hold onto everything and the other will provide you with long term energy.

An apple for example is fruit sugar. In moderation is great! And having fruit is important. You just wouldn't eat 12 apples a day. Too many low carbs.. fruit sugars.

As far as carbs go in regards to your question... carbs, proteins, fat.. anything to excess can be stored as fat.
