Losing Muscles and Extra Skin
-
Friday, December 10, 2004 12:29 PM
Hi there, I'm a big guy and have always had big legs (30"), but when I worked out really hard I had them up to 33" at one time from bicycling and other exercises. My question is, I've been trying to lose the muscles in my legs recently by running and trying to let the bulk slowly go away, but as the bulk is going away, I am seeing extra skin that is not really tight like I think it should be. Has anyone had this or does anyone know how to tighten it up? Thanks.

Generally longer endurance cardio sessions could help. How is your cardio program now? Might try doing 40min cardio 4 times a week.

Really depends on the extra skin. Many people who were extremely overweight (not inferring this is your case at all) have extra skin. That does not go away without surgical removal. Why would you want to lose muscle? It's one of the top things you should try and keep as you get older. Your body should adapt to a point. If you do good cardio sessions, your legs should become tigher and better shaped for those movements. But if you still have some extra skin, you might check with a DR about that because chances are it's not going to just go away.

Because of the size of my legs. I'd be happy with 30 inch legs and then I'd be able to squeeze into some of my older clothes. I'm tired of paying $600+ for a suit because I have to buy size 60 waist to get the legs big enough for me, and then tailor the rest down to my size. Right now my cardio includes an eliptical trainer at 20km/hour for 30 minutes on weekdays and the weekends off. Thanks for the helpful comments, very much appreciated!

I don't see how you are having to get size 60 pants to fit your legs. My thighs measure 31 1/2" and I have a 42" waist, all I have to do is get 44's and the leg problem is situated. I don't wear pants too often because of this

Because if I don't want to wear skin-tight jeans or pants, I have to get them a whole lot bigger. I haven't measured recently (last measurements were a year ago), so my thighs may be bigger now as well. I'm also a 38" waist and am working hard for a 36" waist. I don't mind wearing 40-44" but anything more is way too baggy (in the waist) without tailoring.
