Loose Skin ? - Friday, June 20, 2008 11:09 AM ( #1 )
Hi there just wanted some advice on how to go about this matter;

I have been dieting strictly and going to the gym regular and having one day rest day.

When i first went to the gym i weighed 15stone, In a short space of 4-5months i went to 11stone and for my height a good weight.

Now my stomach/abs have like sagged in a sense and in theory left with loose skin, apprently i can shift it by doing alot of sit ups and leg extensions ?
Just wanted to know if this is true.

Thanks in advance.

i believe that loose skin only has to do with your natural elasticity of the skin and there may not be much to do about it.

Jamie,

Loose skin sucks.  I know that the younger you are the more elastic your skin is.  For example as people age their faces start to sag and what not because their skin loses elasticity.  I would recomend you continue doing weights and cardio to tighten up everything under the skin and hopefully the skin will cooperate.

"Lose skin" usually is just an indicator of a level of high bodyfat %.

The proper way to rid this is going into cutting.

um no not in this case alot of people that are heavy set young or old and then lose alot of weight jamieW did have lose skin because it was stretched and now has nothing there so its left hanging
now the thing is depending on how bad it is and your age it could form back a little if not theres always surgery

an example of it is i had a buddy hes 44-46 yrs old went from about 400+ pounds down to 165-180 over the course of year or two completely ripped to the bone maybe 7% bodyfat awsome abs the whole deal the only thing is is lower stomach saged a bit and eventualy had it removed end of story

so lose skin doesnt mean your fat i see it as a good job on loseing the weight

Everybody touched on it, one way or the other...

Having loose skin I will chime in to complete the picture.

Yes, loose skin is left behind after massive weight loss.

Many people, especially those who have had gastric bypass surgery, or who have lost a lot of weight naturally, have loose saggy fat/skin. In most instances there is still a significant amount of fat attached to the skin that could be lost naturally, and after that the skin has a chance of tighening (more slowly than loosing the initial weight), people get frustrated and kind of disgusted by it, jump to have surgery. Athough depending on the elasticity of your skin it may never be right.

If you are a body builder you have a chance of filling uo the skin with lovely, lovely, muscle. However depending on your goals, your llevel of committement, and the type of skin you have, there may be no other way to irradicate the looseness, with out going under the knife.

One thing is for sure, if you truely have loose skin, no amount of crunches, is going ot fix the situation.
