Lifting for Basketball - Bulk slowing me down?

I've been working out this offseason, mainly lifting heavy weight 6-8 reps per set. I have added some size, but am worried if i continue will it slow me down? Especially lifting legs...will heavy squats reduce my agility and quickness? If so, should i do lighter weight at a higher rep # per set? Thanks

I never do sqaut sets of less than 10 reps for mainly safety reason. Adding bulk will slow you a little because it takes your body time to adjust. My jumper is always a little off after lift till I warm up for 10 min and adjust.

From a physics standpoint, yes if you add mass, it will require more force to move your body. but as you add on weight and continue to play basketball, your muscles are then exercised with your new body weight and will gain strength accordingly. Doing leg lifts should help add explosiveness to your game. Don't stop doing them. I play D3 ball, and my summer program includes squats, deadlifts, pulls, lunges, leg curls, power and hang cleans and snatches, and power press.

try the 8-12 rep range if you dont wanna get 2 big.
Goals by end of 2009: Bench 205 Squat 255 ATG Squat Clean 185 "There is no elevator to success, you must take the stairs."

It wont slow you down to bad if you lift and maybe do some running after, but bulking up too much will slow you down alot.

If you finish your heavy lift days with plyos that will help you keep your speed and agility.
