Ok well I've been using some chicken **** bench with only close to 100 lbs and I feel and know im not realy doing anything or getting any gains realy, so im going to get a new bench and weight set. I don't have a whole lot of money for an exspensive one.

I went looking on the net and found this one at walmart.

Weight bench.

I couldn't find any olympic weight sets anywhere localy, but I found these online..

Weights.

Let me know if you think these producs are any good.

Thx.

I would avoid that and save up your money for a true power rack and a bench that can incline. I would be very hesitant to really load that up, plus squats are going to be nearly impossible to pull off. Plus too much that can go wrong with those pulleys, etc..

I like to keep it simple.

I would recommend a rack such as this one as a minium:

Yes, I know it's $389, but in this case you get what you pay for. To outfit yourself with a power rack, bench and a decent olympic bar and weights should run you about $600-800. Yeah, it's a lot of money, so if you can't afford it now, save up until you can.

Dam I knew it lol, but I wouldn't beable afford it for a LONG time.... My friend has the same bench and its worked good for him, we load a pretty good amount of weight on it, I would work out at his house but hes like 2 hours away....

I wanted to a get a few more opinions on it but realy i can't afford anything that good right now, I guess I should change my question to do you think it would be ok to use this bench for now? Im not lifting any insane amount of weight with it, do you think it would work for me untill I could afford some kind of gym membership or a higher quality bench?

I agree with Pwolf. It's hard to find a bench for home use that can provide you with a safe squat most of all. I'd wait if I were you, save up, Xmas is right around the corner- It's better to get something that's going to last years rather than something you're only going to replace as soon as you can afford something better. If you go ahead and get the bench you linked to, it won't be long before you either-
A- Realise you need something better and feel bad about spending the money on it, or-
B- Get tempted to try heavy squatting with it and possibly injure yourself.
Like Paul said, you get what you pay for. I wish there were some affordable home gyms out there that fit our needs, but I guess if you want to lift big at home, you have to pay for it.

Your better off getting quality equipment. Over a two year period I've been able to acquire an 8 station home gym set, hex DB (10-50lbs.) set with rack, 300lb Olympic weight set, two good benches, a squat rack and a vertical knee/dipping station by Body Solid and Powerline, in addition to an old Weider weight set and bench that are years old but still in use. My suggestion would be get a little at a time, but get some quality equipment. It'll last you a life time. Got most of my equipment from www.fitnessfactory.com Check it out.

Peace Smile

Dam, im so torn here, I want quality equipment but right now with insurence and gas prices and the fact that I race atv's and dirt bikes I just don't have that kinda money to spend on exspensive work out equipment, it would be probly a year or more untill I would beable to afford a good bench or power rack not to mention the weights.

I just figuard that I could get this and it would be better then nothing, I just don't know my friend has this exact same bench and its pretty decent, we do squats diffrently then the guy in the picture and its pretty ez to get the weight up and everything, and it has decline and incline bench...

I totally understand what you guys are saying you get what you pay for but I just feel like this would be better then the VERY small amount of weight and absolutly pos bench I have right now untill I can buy the good equipment, im not to the point where im lifting more weight then this bench can handle so im thinking it'll be ok untill I take a brake from racing and can get the good stuff.

I infact can't even afford that bench and those weights right now, im getting them as a b-day and christmas preasent, so I think ima just go ahead with it.My gas for my dirt bike and 4 wheeler is 20 bucks a gallon not to mention the 30 dollar a gallon oil I have to mix it with along with regular maintinence, replacing broken parts, gas for my truck, and insurence I just don't have the money and will not for to long to not atleast get this.

Do you understand my reasoning behind getting these? Do you agree that it will be better then nothing untill I can afford the better things..?

I don't think I'd recommend doing squats on that sort of bench. You can seriously hurt yourself if something goes wrong- Think about it, there's only the one place you can rest the weights, and it's at the top of the movement- Once you start going down, there's nowhere else to place the weights, and if you have to put them down, you have to get back up into the starting position again, which isn't always possible. Anything else with some sort of low catch point for the bar would be far safer in my opinion- I'm sure others will agree. The potential for injury is too great, doing squats on something like that- I definitely understand what you're saying, that you need something to work out on until you can get something better, but here's what I see happening- You get used to it. You do squats with it for a while and don't have a problem because you have good form and you get lucky- Until the day something stupid happens. You go down for a squat, and get something in your eye. You have a bad muscle spasm in your back. Or your calf. Or anywhere. Your neighborhood has a blackout. Any number of things can happen, unlikely as they might seem- And I would sure hate to be stuck under three hundred pounds when any of those things happen- Especially if I had no fail-safe system for getting that weight off my back. I don't know anyone strong enough to take the weight off my back when I'm squatting- Which is why it's nice that the gym in the school I work at has a power cage. I know that thing can handle the weight no matter what, and I know exactly what to do if I go down and can't get the weight back up- Just go as low as I can, and sit back- The cage will catch the weight, and I get out unharmed.

It sounds to me like you actually CAN afford something better- I know you don't want to hear it, but if keeping your body in one piece is a concern of yours, here's what I'd do- Take a break from your other hobby, or at least cut down on it for a while. At twenty bucks a gallon, giving up five gallons will save you a hundred bucks- If you ask for the cash for your birthday and Xmas, that puts you near three hundred dollars right there- Hell, skip a gallon of that oil, and you're right at three hundred. At that point, you might as well save a couple hundred more and get yourself something nice and sturdy to work out on.
In the long run, it'll be better for you- I can just imagine that IF you get hurt on the inferior bench because you were sorta impatient about saving for something better, you could end up laying on the ground with a busted gut or worse, kicking yourself for it.
Hope this helps.
