My leg press has always been proportionately higher than my squats and so i ahve started concentrating on leg press as my primary leg workout. I start with about 405lbs. and increase 90lbs. a set up to 765 or 855, depending on how my legs feel. I then warm down with 1 set of squat at 225 for 10-12 reps. I then go around and do some other light leg workouts such as ham curls and groin and hip work. I do this once a week. This workout has shown good results but i can't help but wonder if squats alone instead of leg press would be a better workout. Anmy ideas or suggestions? Also, if anyone is familiar with the squat press, the leg press machine with a different motion to it, what do y'all think about it? thanks

most people if not all, will be stronger on leg press than squats. leg press takes some of your stabilizers out of the equation. you can focus more on pressing the weight than form. if i were you i would concentrate more on squats than leg press. do 3 sets of squats than 3 sets of leg press. squat press? are you talking about the hack squat machine. hack squats are good too. i would switch between hack squats and leg press.

Squats will build better overall muscles with less weight. You should incorporate several sets of squats as well as leg presses if you can. I've always prefered to do squats first though.

If I had to choose between the two, free weight squats definitely rule. Far more muscle used, far more muscle gained overall- But leg presses are definitely a good thing to do in addition to squats. Don't rule either one out.

most people if not all, will be stronger on leg press than squats. From what I understand from watching a lot of Powerlifters Squat is that the Quads really don't come into play as much as people think in moving weight with Squating. The Leg Press is essentially a isolation movement that really, really nails your Quads, but the Squat is a all around builder for the Hams/Quads/Low Back/Hips/etc... For all around Leg development, it may be more benifical for you to build a foundation with heavy Squats first in your routine. I think you will notice a difference from front to back more as apposed to concentrating on the leg press.
