Leather Waist Belts?

Every person on the wrestling room wears these huge leather belts they put on that goes on above their upper waist, ive seen the skinny little guys do it too,,, i dont think it benefits them, if not weigh them down by hanging off them... what does this do? the "bigger" guys seem to only work out with these attached

it is only to prevent lower back injuries. I have to admit that some bodybuilder use this belt always and always, but the main reason is for security. It does not need to be wear all the time...like when benching or lying or worst, abs....but some think this is like a short or a t shirt...  http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/Belt_on_Squats%3F/m_33123/tm.htm
