Keratosis Pilaris - Friday, December 23, 2005 7:32 PM
Anyone ever have Keratosis Pilaris? Lately I've been showing signs of it, I sure hope I don't have it, because you cant even show off your muscles when you have it.. Is it treatable, and how do you diagnose it? If it is it's only mild, but..

EDIT: LOL do NOT image google this.. your mind will be fried forever! I sure hope it doesn't progress to get that bad....

yeah supposedly its when you produce too much keratin in your skin and it goes into hair pores/follicles/whatevers, its like having goosebumps 24/7

Come on, peeps! You Googled the images, how much further is it to a dermatologist's site?

http://www.aocd.org/skin/dermatologic_diseases/keratosis_pilaris.html

Sounds to me like you could keep it in check with frequent exfoliating scrubs and moisturizer. Which, by the way, is good advice for anyone who plans to be showing off a lot of skin (especially come summer time )
Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

I got that as well. I went to a dermatologist a few years ago and they gave me some exfoliating creame but it didn't really do anythng for me.

hmm thanks vegge I'll try that.

Apparently since keratin dislodging into the hair pores/follicles/whatevers causes it, getting the hair waxed helps so that you get less bumps?  Or so I read. I REALLY don't want to have to do that

Sorry, a little late (ok, VERY late) on this post.

Dont worry about it ColdSteel.

The best thing you can do for this condition is nothing.

In a lot of cases, this tends to resolve itself over time.

Exfoliating etc etc can help but can also irritate the skin and can make things worse.

Just let it be, keep your skin clean and it should come good with time.

Lol, I read up on it. Being afraid of this is like being afraid of pimples. lol

Someone always has to write on the walls "Mike was here". But then someone else puts an arrow and it says "Mike is a ****got". So Mike comes back to check it out, "What the hell?! I was here but not as a ****got!"
