Keeping gains while sick...

anyone have any secrets for keeping size while you' re sick? I have lost, in the past 1.5 weeks, over ten pounds because I have been so sick. I was running 103 temps for days...bad news. I am finally starting to feel better now even though I am below 180. I was 191 before I was sick. -AJ

I have found that pushing yourself back to the gym is NOT the way to go. It usually prolongs the sickness. I can loose up to 10 lbs in a week, but it is obvoiusly not muscle. Take it easy, fluids and rest is the way to go. I can usually gain the weight and strength back within a few weeks even when I get really sick and loose a lot of weight.

Someone else mentioned this but, I think vitamin C is realy underated, I take in about 3-4 grams a day. And am rarely sick. In third world countries where medicine and money are scarce, Doctors will prescribe patiens with 10 Gram mega doses of Vitamin C.

IMO, weight / size lost while sick is mostly waterweight. I personally am far more concerned about the strength lost while sick.

fluids....drink, drink, drink, drink (not beer, lol) and keep vitamins up...it' s one of the only scientifically proven thinsg to reduce duration of sickness. i agree with all the other guys, don' t worry so much about weight loss, worry about getting better

BUMP on this. I' ve got a minor cold right now.. nothing like the flu that takes me out.. But I am pretty much taking this week off from the gym as I don' t feel I' m mentally there. My hardest battle when sick is eating. I' m just not hungry. Keep the posts coming. I might just run to the store now and get a Vitamin C supplement. Thanks!
