Im 14, my voice has not broken and im about 5 ft 7. I weigh about 8 stone but im affraid i have no idea what that is in pounds. All i have basically started doing is 50 press ups and 50 sit ups in the morning and then again in the evening. I have been doing this for about 3 weeks now and have noticed some phsical improvement but none that is visable. I would just basically like to know if i am doing too little, too much, enought but not for a long enought period of time, if should be doing a workout when i am not fully mature or wait till im older, a number of things. I would also greatly appreciate just a very very rough idea of what to eat to help me gain mussle.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Im acctually 5ft 2. i dont know what i was thinking last night.

If I were you, I'd start myself on a easy beginner program so you can get the basic feel of the exercises and just get used to working out on a consistant basis. Also, do some research on putting together a diet as best as you can. I know it's difficult at the age to be buying food and supplements all the time, but try to get as best of a diet as possible. As far as lifting, do you have access to a gym or are you just planning on training at home? That'll definitely determine what kind of split you can come up with based on what you have access to. Also try reading other threads on this site. Get alot of info before you start. Good luck.

Thanks very much for the advice.

Im planning just working out at home, and building up a little before i go into gyms. As far as diet is concerned i try to eat at least 3 eggs, and six small meals. consisting mainly of pasta, vegtables and meat. By easy program do u mean using small home weights or just sit ups press ups pull ups and so on.

Finally do u know anywhere where i can acctually learn what kind of exercises i do with or without weights and what results they sould have, preferably in language that anyone can understand. its alot to ask but ty very much all the same. :)

Here's that link again- I posted it in reply to one of your other questions, it's a nice site that shows all kinds of exercises for the different muscle groups.
What you need to do in order to put on muscle is first, get your nutrition right- You need to feed your body in order for it to grow, no amount of working out will do the trick if you don't give your body the fuel. Check around the nutrition forum for more advice, but basically you'll want to eat 5-6 healthy meals a day with plenty of protein and good carbs. Oops, just reread your post, sounds like you've already got the idea there- Good work!
Next, you need to get yourself a nice bench and some weights- Pushups and situps won't do it. You can do as many as you like for as long as you like, but they won't put real muscle on you- They'll build your endurance. See, your body tries to adapt to whatever you present it with- If you lift heavy weights consistently, your body will have to grow more muscle in order to handle them. If you don't lift heavy weights, your body has no reason to build more muscle- Pushups and situps don't even come close to simulating weights, they're endurance exercises. Once you get the weights, DO NOT work your muscles as often as you've been doing the pushups and situps- Your body needs rest in order to rebuild the muscle, and training too often interrupts the rebuilding process- Overtraining can lead to at best, no gains- At worst, injury and illness.

No one can tell you what weight to start at, really- The best thing to do is start off with really light weights to make sure you have the proper form down. Learn the form for each exercise you're planning on doing before you start adding weight- Some people even say just train with the bar, no weights, until you can do the exercises properly. Once you know you're doing them right, add some weight each week- Never try to pile on as much as you think you can lift at first, that's something you have to work up to. When it comes to how much weight you want to lift, it really depends on how many reps per set you plan on doing-
Let's say you can bench 200 pounds ten times before you can't do anymore. It's safe to say you can add another twenty or so pounds and be able to do, say, five or six reps. So, if you start learning how to bench press with thirty pounds (Really light for the bench press, but let's play it safe) And you get the form down properly over a couple of weeks, once you feel confident enough to add more weight, go ahead- But not too much. Week by week, keep adding weight, listening to what your body tells you. If you want to end up working out doing six to eight reps per set, you'd obviously want to settle on the weight you can do more than six reps with, but not more than eight. Let your body dictate what you lift, no one else.

I'd recommend just getting to the gym right away. Although when you get there, take it easy and start out fairly light, just to get your form down properly. This is just from personal experience, but I find that home workouts are often inefficient and it is sometimes tough to push yourself and/or get down to work. Being at the gym right from the start will introduce you to a wide range of activities and a motivational/positive atmosphere. Good luck!
