Couldn't you have just bought something of the same weights and size to fit around the barbell at like a hardware store or something? $50 seems steep, didn't read to much into it so I don't know how many you get, it just seems like a lot of money. Handy tool for increasing the weight though.

Ya I could have bought washers or something, but then I would have had to have them precisely weighed and bored out to fit over the 2" bar. I'm lazy, so I spent $56 on a nicely labeled set of microplates. There's 2 of each: 1/4 lb, 1/2 lb, 3/4 lb, and 1 lb plates. I'll be able to add like 1/2 lb. to my bench, OH press, and eventually power cleans once I stall on those every workout now, and hopefully that will allow me to progress for a long time. I want to get my bench up to like 275 for 5 reps, OH press up to 225, and power clean up to 225, but that's not going to happen 5 lbs. at a time.

how much are you at on overhead press right now (weight wise)??? i think you could reach 225 without using the microweights. heck.. i'm at 200 lbs right now on OH press and only getting stronger.

Nah microweights are definately necessary. Yesterday, I did 135 for 5 reps. I have done 145 for 5 reps in the past, but I hurt myself because of form errors. By adding 1/2 lb. at a time I will hardly notice a difference in the weight that I'm using from workout to workout, but I will still be progressing. If I'm able to add 1/2 lb. per workout to my 135 lbs. the I will be at 225 in 180 workouts, or about 2 years. That's reasonable. BUT if I tried to keep adding 5 lbs. at a time, I would stall at about 145 or 150 lbs. and there would be no way I could get that 155 up let alone another 5 lb. jump to 160. 5 lbs. at a time for a lift like the OH press is just too much to keep progress moving forward. The same is true for the bench press. I've been reading about microloading, and it's very interesting, and it makes lots of sense.

I do want to gain more weight, I'm just too lazy to start eating more. That's a lot of work, lol. I'll get the motivation one day though. See I have 'stalled' on my bench and OH press pretty much, but I know I can keep going forward at 1/2 lb. at a time. I'll see how long I can do that for. Once I am unable to add weight in very small increments from workout to workout, I will switch to intermediate programming such as the 5x5 routine that everyone talks about, and add small amounts each week until that is no longer possible. We'll see what happens.

Shut up it's hard. Eating to grow is a b**** because you have to force food down when you're not hungry day in and day out. A lot of times that results in holding myself back from puking. Eating to cut is also a b**** because you have to deal with the hunger. Eating to maintain is easy because I just eat when I'm hungry and it satisfies me.

If someone told me that they moved up 1/2 pound on their bench I would slap them. I have always been a fan of the slap another 5 pounder on each side and push like a mofo.

When I'm benching 315, I'll be sure to rub it in on all you weak little boys. Now I have to patiently wait for my pu**y weights.
