I have a close friend. 19 yrs old female who weighs approx 60 kilos with ~20% bf. She's got this condition called a heart murmur. From what I was able to learn from the internet, it is a thing where the valves connecting to the heart are deformed and every time the blood is pumped through the heart, there is this obstruction because of which there is a swooshing sound like a murmur. It normally happens in babies and then gets alright as they grow up, but in rare cases, the deformity continues to be there and requires surgery to be fixed in later years. She has less stamina coz of this and will passout under strenous activity. Also this causes pain and then splitting headaches. Blood pressure is low as a result of the blockage. Surgery is not an immediate thing to be done. We can wait for another 10 - 20 years and ward it off with some medications and stuff. She doesn't not smoke but drinks occasionally. Meanwhile, here is what I did for my part in this whole issue : 1) Cleaned up her Once pathetic junk diet [her breakfast started with chips and fanta, now it is oats or omlettes and juice] 2) Taught her to do BW squats, 4 sets of 8, after which she is winded up. She started with one set of 5-6 reps 3 months ago 3) Basic breathing exercises from Yoga 4) Static stretching 5) Taking long walks coz running is not a viable option _________________________________________________________________ Actually I think we are good so far coz she is better than what she started out with and I believe any further lifestyle changes should be done under supervision of a fitness physician or someone with specialisation. But I also want to see what you guys have to say. Maybe we can slightly tweak a bit here and there without blowing her heart out. She ain't in a very bad condition. Just that she can take a load of stress. So any input would be appreciated.
