Just goes to show you what waiting can do

I finally found a freakin awesome deal on some weights. For $100 I got the weider pro 408(which is not a machine), and a 300lb weight set. It is in almost new condition. The guy only used it for like a month, and everything is perfect shape. The weider 408 is a bench/squat rack combo, and has a preacher curl and leg ext on it, and a latpulldown can be attached to it. The bench is decline, flat, and incline. Also the slots go low enough that I can rack pulls on them. The slots are also high enough to put the bar there and do pullups on it. Here's a picture of it(not mine, my camera's messed up): Then the bar is a 40lb bar, I know it's weird, two 44's, two 33's, two 22's, two 11's, 4 5.5's, and four 2.75's. It also came with a weight tree that every one of those weights fit on. In conclusion, I am one of the luckiest people alive.

rippedchick You can always tell the people with home gyms because they post odd numbers.lol. But good for you! Yeah it is a metric set, it has the weight in kilos and pounds on the plate. I don't really care because it's still basically the same. I weighed the bar on a scale by my weight subtracted from my weight holding the bar, so it might be a little off or something. I have a cool idea for the bar that I will post later I just bought this today and I am still in awe that I got it for such a low price.

I really hate Weider equipment. They are total crap and I'm speaking from experience. Not a smart investment at all.

albowrx I really hate Weider equipment. They are total crap and I'm speaking from experience. Not a smart investment at all. Well that sucks for you. My old bench I had was a weider and it was just fine. I had it for three years and it never broke or anything. How many weider products have you had that sucked? And why do they suck?

I had a bench when I was 16 and it was a total piece of crap. Cheap plastic toy made in China. Well, 13 years later now and I know what quality equipment is. I have a Body Solid power rack, Cybex 0 to 80 bench, Hampton olympic plates(1000lbs), Ironmasters adjustable dumbbells 5 to 75lb(with 120lb add-on kit soon), 10 to 75lb hex dumbbells with Body Solid GDR60, Star Trak spinner. If you don't believe me on their quality, how come they are sold only in department store which are for the masses, and not in a fitness equipment store? Because they blow in quality! I learned my lesson and will always save a bit more and put it towards "quality" equipment. Weider is fine for starters, but if you're planning on keeping them for a while, better look elsewhere.

You know it's really great that you have all that stuff, must have cost a lot of money... what he got for $100 is a great deal. What's the point in putting down what someone else is very happy to have? albowrx I had a bench when I was 16 and it was a total piece of crap. Cheap plastic toy made in China. In no way did I post to make this guy feel bad about his purchase. I'm just giving him a heads up if he decides to go heavy, which eventually he will. A little research beforehand would have come up with countless threads on here and other forums about the Weider "quality". It's like countless people that buy Bowflex to build mass. Good luck on that. I only brought up my equipment to show what I think it's quality, since he considers Weider quality. I'm not rich in any way, but I also would like to invest on equipment that will last me a lifetime. You just have to save up a little longer but the end result is more than satisfying. Most of my stuff were bought on Craigslist, except IM dumbbells, Inzer belt, ARP straps, Pendlay bar and a few small equipment here and there, since you can't everything on CL. Oh and if you're wondering, I picked up the Cybex bench for $180 on CL in excellent condition.

The best way to go about, is to get a used power rack, fid bench and 300lb weights if you have nothing. With that rack, there's nothing that will spot him if he fails in a lift. I picked up my Body Solid rack with lat attachment(plate-loaded) for $85. Just another example...

Dude I'm 16 and only plan on having this thing for a couple years. That's all that I will need it. I plan on buying a power rack when I actually have a job that's pays enough or until I can find a cheap used one. Plus there are countless threads on a lot of types of equipment that say it's crap. There's always a couple of defects. It sounds like you just got a piece of crap, you said it was plastic, who buys a plastic bench? The specs for the bench says it holds like 500 pounds so there ain't no problem it holding the weight. It'll be a while before my bench gets up to that. For squats I go to the Y with my family on saturday and that it is when I squat. So the bench is just fine for me. Plus I always have a spotter so the spot bars don't really make a difference to me right now.

I just thought it came out sounding a little brash and discouraging.. especially for someone who was excited about finding a good deal. The equipment you speak of such as weider and golds, stuff that's sold at Dicks, Walmart and Target are certainly not commercial grade equipment but work just fine for people that aren't lifitng 400-500lbs lifts. I have an old golds adjustable bench that i've had for ages that works just as good as any commercial grade bench I've ever used at a gym. The primary difference IMO opinion is, if the equipment is going to be used daily by dozens of people then yes, you need commercial quality, if it's being used by 2-3 people, weekly it's not necessary at all.. But it would be nice if everyone had the money to invest in commercial grade equipment.. but until then, I guess Weider and Golds retail equipment will work just fine for most.. albowrx In no way did I post to make this guy feel bad about his purchase. Great find, I'm looking for something like that too >.>
