Judges say thighs too muscular...next?

Just got done w/ my second Figure competition and wow was it a tough group! It was a Pro-Qualifier so there were some great competitors there. I did place 3rd in my height group so I should be happy....but I'm not. I want to do better...duh. So, I talked to some judges and was told I'm a natural for BB (short bellied muscle group here) and my "X" is a bit too narrow and bottom heavy because of very big quads. I can also put on muscle just looking at weights. But I don't want to do BB. I like Figure....it's girly!~ So, I'm going to change my approach to training my legs and I'm looking for what any other gal (or guy) does to detrain muscular legs and I'm going to build some size onto my upper body. Hopefully, this will "balance" things out. I was looking into circut/interval bodyweight training, pilates and lots of walking for the legs. Other thoughts would be appreciated... Thanks!
I will never be done learning.... ACSM cert. Personal Trainer Long term goal: Maintain 13% Currently: 9.5%

I would not worry about the legs, maintain them. To balance your body you need to widen your back. Work on spreading your lats and your legs will no longer be the sole focal point. Increased deltoid width will also contribute to an overall balanced physique.

Yeah, back, shoulders and possibly arms need some catching up to the thighs from what you're saying. Shoot us a contest picture when they're available! Good workin' out! And congrats on your success at the show! I hope to compete next summer Men's Master Over 45 and Novice Light Heavy.

Nice to see you still competing thewfh.... I remember your legs well from your first comp... bring up the back while holding your legs is probably the best strategy, but i have no specific advice for you... as pure aesthetics is not my focus. Just wanted to say hello...

Boo! Hey, I still get subs from this forum, had to come and say hi, just from the ladies area though, I gave up on the rest of it. Try to streamline legs, once per week only and stick with pink DBs, super light and body weight, iso exercises more than compound. high high high reps. that should help stretch them out a bit so to speak! Linda knows the ins and outs. Follow her suggestions and try another competition. Sometimes I think the judges are bias. ** Good to see you again Linda. I see you have been working hard on your look.

I know your woes though, got 6th at nationals this year, look at the pic though and I wonder why I was not top 3....still waiting to hear back on my feedback.....this show was Aug 15th.09. I am near right end (second girl in from left), 2nd place winner is on my left (third girl in from left), 3rd place is on my right (far right in line up), 5th is at the far left, and the winner was sylvia trembley (5 girls in from left) she is in the middle. To boot, my score was a far 6th place from 5th. 5th got 55pts and I got 73, 7fricken3! I need to shave like 50 pts off that to make first place. this is only my second year at Canadian Nationals with this federation and they seem to like familiarity......

hey guys, nice to chat! how things around here now?? Well you can pm me or email me I guess.....not to take the thread but yeah, been working hard to get the look I need for IFBB pro, chopped my hair too, hoping it makes me look bigger but also as part of a fear thing, have not cut it since I was 4.....not short. but I do like long and will be growing it back now, its been a year of short and fears are beat now so...... I am taking next year off to get my look 'streamlined' as Mike puts it.............I finally folded, let down my ego and am working with fitness factory.......I work myself too hard and need support, have none at home so after 16+ yrs of doing it all myself I have a coach now, don't have ot think about my own diet and training, just my clients which for me is easy, with myself I get biased.....and I have a choreographer to now. well, I may start visiting in here more often......I been noticing some email notifications of changes which have been happening here so we will see...... Linda

From the pic you posted: the judges need to be fired. I look hard at ab structure and don't see much in the first place bracket. Yours and the woman next to you (2nd place) look great. The one at the far right, you can see her ribs??? What kind of cut is that? Please keep us posted on your next ventures. Good to see you back here.

You do look fantastic, Linda... Judging is subjective at times.... I do agree w/ your comment about the light legwork. IF I can ever figure out how to get a stupid pic up....you all will see. I have BIG thighs...and if I worked my upper body to match, I'd be pretty big.....too big for figure. At lease to NANBF/IFPA Pro judges...

From the pic you posted: the judges need to be fired. x2 I get the impression there is a lot of politics and who knows whom at these competitions to be honest.

X3 sylvia and yourself make this thing look like a competition. no one seems to have any abs to speak of really.. as wetdawg said, the ribbed girl looks 'not too great'. apparently the judges judged in the wrong light.
