Josh's Journal - Saturday, April 04, 2009 2:25 PM ( #1 )
Been Body Building for a while. Recently stopped to start power lifting. Joined Lifting Team this last week. Not too sure of my numbers right now. Bench press is in the middle of a grip correction and I've slacked on Legs. Its going to set me way back for competing but I know I can push to where I need to. I've got naturally strong legs. My new team, lifting partner outweighs me by a little bit and is 2 years older. He is a bit stronger but a great partner. He was a very good gymnist for who knows how long and is now a gymnastics coach which will mean I'll be pushed to the max often. Definitely looking forward to this. I'd really like to get some 1 RM's on my lifts but I'm my legs are still sore from the massacre earlier this week. I'll try to find time because we start statics this up coming week and hoping to see some pretty nasty gains over the next 5-6 weeks.

Consuming lots of water. Sorry to say I'm not counting calories or have a specific diet but everything i eat in this house is, Peanut butter, Oranges, Peanuts, Eggs, Chicken Breasts, Yoplait light yogurts, Cottage cheese, breads, milk, and i think that about sums it up

Doing a little bit of loading with creatine. 15-20g/day. Still undecided if I want to try a 20g/day for 3 days on/3 days off or if i want to just load and maintain. I'm kinda liking the 3 on/3 off idea Just to make sure I'm getting an abundance of creatine even if I am excreting it.

Static's start tomorrow night and I hope all goes well and it hurts. My partner and I are both new to it. Another good thing about us is that we're getting along really well and talking alot, considering we randomly met at the gym. I feel we're going to be strong points in the team. I feel very organized and focused.

I will also meet the rest of the team tomorrow in our first full team meeting. LETS DO WORK!

@*%$ !!!! its 4:30 in the morning and I can't sleep. AH, just thought I'd write in the journal to pass time and maybe make me tired. Tomorrow is a terrible day to be lacking sleep for. I can't afford that in the gym. I'll probably try a glass of warm milk in a bit....... lame

Re:Josh's Journal - Sunday, April 05, 2009 9:50 PM ( #5 )
Very exciting night!!. First We had a good team meeting, going over sponsorships and what not. Things are looking very promising for us. Tons of opportunities. I cannot wait to get out on the road with these guys. It'll be a good time. But it is hard trying not to compare myself to some of them. Being that I'm weaker. UGGHH! But I try to keep my head held high and do my best. I actually showed myself that tonight. My partner is stronger than me and I don't like being the little guy. I was a little disappointed in my maxes but I should have saw it coming. I know I'm keeping my head high though because I most definitely did not dwell on the maxes. I know why they're lower right now and the WILL rise fast.

My Bench is still in the middle of a grip change. I needed to bring my hands in closer (Full hand inside smooth mark, instead of Full hand outside smooth mark) Weird, but yes I actually do less weight. It'll be up to par in no time though.

My Legs, well... I've been a bit of a slacker and really just didn't work legs. No excuses. But as I said before I have fairly strong legs naturally and do expect the numbers to rise quickly.

6'0
179 lbs

Bench Press: 250
Deadlift: 335
Squat: 300

Then came the climax. STATIC!! I've got to say, I do like it. A Few of the guys on here said it hurts in which I'll agree. Some exercises do hurt but I got used to the pain rather fast. The idea of  no pain, no gain can be really exhilarating. 355 lbs over your body is just nastttyy when your not used to that!! Every Excercise was static'd tonight and I feel like its doing something. Its a good feeling. 5 days from now we're going to up the % probably 20. 426 lbs sitting over me. HOLY #&*$. Someone has a signature on here that says if the weight doesnt scare you, its not enough. HAHA indeed. But im pumped for it. BRING IT ALL ON!

Correction: 20% on top of 355 is 426lbs. I should have added 20% to the already 40%. So BP max x 60% is 400lbs. That sounds right. We'll also see when the time comes

Re:Josh's Journal - Monday, April 06, 2009 10:09 PM ( #8 )
First off, The Bad: Last week I murdered my legs all around and was pretty damn sore the rest of the week. Sunday night came and it was time to do some maxing and then start static after maxing. Well I think I was feeling alright to max sunday. Maybe not 100% but close. After that, tonights leg day rolls around and its more of a quad day. I started off warming up on the elliptical with sweats and all on to get the blood pumping. I noticed my quads were not sore but burning slightly just from the resistance of the elliptical. This is not a good sign. I'm not recovered enough. I proceed with the workout. Though I was probably restricted a bit in the amount of weight I was able to do, I still got a great workout.

The Good: As I said, i got a pretty good workout. By the end of it I was feeling all wobbly. You know, that feeling we all love. Even though my weights aren't up to my likings in my legs, I was not put down by it really. Squats were kinda disappointing but hey, you gotta start somewhere. Plus, its my fault. I feel like I'm building my mental strength also again. The DO NOT QUIT mentality. I don't get that from just doing upper body and legs whenever I feel like it. It felt sweet to max on deadlifts sunday. I don't care what my weight is on DL's, I love them. If I can't excel in squats, so be it. My DL's will for sure. But I'll continue to push through on my squats. It's a must and I'd be letting myself down if I didn't. Most importantly, My workout ended strong also.

Tonights routine went as follows:

Leg Press: 990 @ 7sec, 990 @ 7sec, 990 @ 7sec (thats some heavy stuff, whew)
Hack Squats: 90 lbs x 10reps, 140 lbs x 8reps, 180 lbs x 6reps
Squats: 245 lbs x 10reps, 265 x 5reps, 225 x 8reps
Leg Extensions: 240 @ 7sec, 285 @ 7sec, 285 @ 10+sec (Reminder: Add more resistance)
Backwards Lunges: 3 sets of 10 w/ 35lb DB's
Calf Raises: 3 sets of 30 @ 75 lbs, EXPLOSIVE (machine weight)

Tomorrow is back and bi's and I'm ready to keep busting my ass

Re:Josh's Journal - Wednesday, April 08, 2009 10:26 PM ( #10 )
Well, normally I'm still pretty motivated after i get out of a gym. Not so much tonight. But I believe thats because tonights workout was pretty rough. During the workout I pushed pretty hard as usual. DL's didn't go like I wanted them too but it makes sense. I'm still building. I need to start stretching more often. Got this small, annoying type of pain in the top of my right butt cheek and lower back. Most likely due to my weak back having to keep up with my legs. Sitting here..... Yes my energy is gone. Good Workout tonight.

Deadlift: 275lbs x 10reps, 295lbs x 8reps, 315lbs x 2reps (Form was getting bad)
Horse stance: 3 sets @ 1 min w/ 30 sec rest (OMG!, first time doing this. It sucks!!!)
Back Extensions: 95lbs @ 20sec, 90lbs @ 20sec, 90lbs @ 20sec
Legs Curls: 130lbs @ 7sec, 140lbs @ 7sec, 140lbs @ 7sec
Front Lunges: 45lbs x 10reps, 45lbs x 10reps, 45lbs x 10reps
Calf raises: 270lbs x 30reps, 270lbs x 30reps, 270lbs x 30reps

Re:Josh's Journal - Thursday, April 09, 2009 10:25 PM ( #11 )
So out with bad first and there's not much bad news. Mainly all this heavy lifting and static is contraction is having its toll on my back and body. There are 5 different workouts and we just finished the first 5 days. Its alot of heavy heavy weight. Very Bearable but still strenuous. The next 2 days are going to rest days pretty much. I'll do core exercises tomorrow night and run. I'll also run saturday. I'll do plenty of stretching and resting. lol Tonight was Shoulders and also VERY HEAVY. Most of the exercises were static'd tonight.. When I say most, I mean all but 1. But enough talk... im tired again. Well worn out I should say.

Military Front Press (Smith): 315lb @ 7sec, 315lbs @ 7sec, 315lbs @ 7sec
DB Side Delt: 25lbs @ 7sec, 25lbs @ 7sec, 25lbs @ 7sec
Front BB raises: 75lbs @ 7sec, 75lbs @ 7sec, 75lbs @ 7sec
Rear Delt, Reverse Rows: 265lbs @ 7sec, 275lbs @ 7sec, 275lbs @ 7sec
Upright Cable Rows: 150lbs x 10reps, 150lbs x 10reps, 150lbs x 10reps
Shrugs: 405lbs @ 7sec, 455lbs @ 7sec, 455lbs @ 7sec

True Statement: If you wanna get somewhere, MOVE BIG WEIGHT.

Not that I wasn't working hard before. (well not as hard as now) But before I didn't have a partner. I'm so thankful for my partner and we do indeed move BIG weight. God, this workout is doign something to me for sure. I just know all this stress is going to pay off. SO STOKED!!

Haven't posted for a couple days. Friday I didn't go to the gym. Enjoyed a relaxing night. Saturday I Did the elliptical for about 20 minutes then worked abs and core. Not much news. But tonight I'm back to heavy weights.

Just got home from the gym. I've got my mindset to do the heavy weights and definitely push hard. But I'm lacking the "THRILL" Idk. but i hope that passes. Tonight was a good night though. Did increased weights and managed. Thats the first sign of good news in this workout. I really think next week will be the first true test though because we're increasing core lifts another 10%. Either way, I'm happy with tonight. I felt my chest squeezing more tonight, which i take as more good news.

CHEST AND TRI'S:  2 OF 6
Bench Press: 375lbs @ 7sec, 375lbs @ 7 sec, 375lbs @ 7 sec, 385lbs @ 7sec
Incline Press: 345lbs @ 7sec, 345lbs @ 7sec, 345lbs @ 7sec
Cable Flyes: 87.5lbs @ 7sec, 87.5lbs @ 7sec, 87.5lbs @ 7sec (switched the angle, as previously stated)
Weight Dips: 3 sets with 135lbs + Resistance @ 7sec
Skull crushers: 165lbs @ 7sec, 165lbs @ 7sec, 165lbs @ 7sec
V-Bar Tricep Pulldowns: 160lbs @  7sec, 160lbs @ 7sec, 160lbs @ 7sec

Re:Josh's Journal - Monday, April 13, 2009 11:26 PM ( #15 )
thank you. i'm always open to suggestions. Tonight was a legs night. Quads more specifically. But, it was a GREAT workout. Holy **** I got a burn. Squats went better than last week. I think everything went better than last week. I think i'm stuck on a strong mind now. Being a good thing of course. I do not give up. Tonight I pushed through squats until I crashed. It was my last rep of my last set. It felt great. I also crashed on Hack squats on rep 6 of 8 in my second set. Not the best time to crash but my partner helped and pushed me through that and 3 reps of my third set. I feel like I'm going to be sore as hell for the next couple days. I hope not cuz I want the same feeling for wednesday DL and ham's day. Tonight's workout was:

LEGS/QUADS: 2 OF 6
Leg Press: 990lbs @ 7sec, 1080lbs @ 7sec, 1080lbs + res @ 5sec
Squats: 245lbs x 10reps, 255lbs x 8reps, 275lbs x 5reps
Hack Squats: 140lbs x 10reps, 160lbs x 6reps (+2 assisted reps), 170lbs x 3reps (+3 assisted reps)
Leg Extensions: 285lbs + res @ 7sec, 285lbs + res @ 7sec, 285 + res @ 7sec
Backwards Lunges: 3sets w/ 40lbs x 10reps
Calf Raises: 3sets w/ 90lbs x 30reps

HAHA, thats awesome and terrible at the same time. Good to hear you're working hard but sorry you lost your carbs.

Well, anything that says 7 seconds next to it means I static'd that exercise. Anything with reps is obviously not... lol. Holding that much weight at my strongest point in the range for a time between 5 and 10 seconds. 7 is the golden number. If I go longer than 10 seconds, I bump the weight up. Its the idea of using all your muscles fibres still but not in a Full range rep and also shocking your CNS. Example: Load the weight on bench. Partner helps you with it off and you hold it over yourself. The strongest point in your Bench press is a slight bend in the elbows. Literally not much movement. Then hold it for the time. Idk if I needed to explain it or not but just incase that was your next question or something

Well I gotta say, I felt stronger than I did last week in this workout and I also went up in all my weights. This is what I'm looking to see. I did have a redbull before I went in tonight but I don't think that was it. I have a pretty high tolerance to caffeine and didn't feel overly energetic or anything. But I'll get on with the workout.

Back and Bi's: 2 of 6
Pull Ups: 3sets x 10 w/ 10lb DB
Lat Pulls: 300lbs + res @ 7sec, 300lbs + res @ 7sec, 300lbs + res @ 7sec
Seated Rows: 300lbs + res @ 7sec, 300lbs + res @ 7sec, 300lbs + res @ 7sec
1 Arm DB Row: 55lbs x 10reps, 60lbs x 10reps, 65lbs x 10reps
Straight Bar Curls: 145lbs @ 7sec, 145lbs @ 7sec, 155lbs @ 7sec
Resistance Rope Curls (Lower Bi): 3sets @ 7sec
Resistance Rope Curls (Upper Bi): 3sets @ 7sec
Hammer Curls: 30lbs x 10reps, 35lbs x 10reps, 40lbs x 10reps (left arm assisted in last 4

Re:Josh's Journal - Thursday, April 16, 2009 11:45 AM ( #21 )
I didn't post after the workout last night. But IT WAS AMAZING haha. Great workout. First I'll mention the bad. My only concern: I need to freaking start stretching!!!! atleast my legs and back for sure. I'm getting so tight that its causing pains and could turn into something i don't need. But thats an easy fix. I just gotta start and keep it going. THE GREAT: Well I was a bit sore going into the workout, thinking it wasn't going to be a great one, but always decent. I drank a redbull again before the workout to ease my mind off the soreness and whatnot. I see last weeks Deadlifts and see that I didn't do so hot. Not the weight I wanted and form was getting bad. Well this week my partner convinced me to put on a weight I didn't think I should do. But I did it anyway. 295 for my first set and I repped it out fast, clean and easy. FELT GREAT. 305 for my second set and it was almost as easy as my first but still felt great. My last set, I threw my max on. haha 335. Got it all 6 reps!!! I was so stoked. still am lol.

LEGS/BACK/HAMMY'S: 2 OF 6
Deadlift: 295lbs x 10reps, 305lbs x 8reps, 335lbs x 6reps     !!!!!!
Horse Stance: 3 sets @ 70 seconds w/ 30 sec rest   .....
Back Extensions: 3 sets w/ 90lbs @ 20sec
Leg Curls: 140lbs @ 7sec, 140lbs @ 7sec, 140lbs @ 7sec
Front Lunges: 3 sets w/ 50lbs x 10reps
Calf Raises: 3 sets w/ 290lbs x 30reps

I'm back on protein shakes. Gonna try keeping the protein pumping in me along with my wanna be/try to be high protein diet. I'm also starting an N.O. tonight called Pump Fuel. Some good freinds recommended it over Xplod and Superpump. We'll see how it goes and if all goes well tonight I'll probably write a review on it also.... Shoulders tonight. HIP HIP HOORAY

I did my second shoulders and traps workout tonight. I've got to say, The weight differences from last week to this week are kind of rediculous. I'm thinking that our bodies recovered very well from last week and adjusted to the pain and weights and hoping that we're already seeing good gains. Our static routine is much more vast than most static routines I've seen. Meaning, we're static'ing way more exercises than I've read you can static, which I have no doubt in my mind that it works still. More static means using more of your body more often, thus taking much more to do each one. Common sense. IMO, Static turns exercises into big compound exercises requiring so much more from your body than normal. Just like when you first started lifting and you see the biggest gains. It really does make sense and I truly believe this is working. My fingers are crossed and I'll wait and see till next week when I have to up the weights once again.

I took this new pre workout supp tonight. But I don't believe thats the whole reason I lifted so well tonight at all. But I'm sure it did help some. I'm also writing a review on it in "Supplements".

Off topic: I feel sorry for ppl who read my whole posts. I write so much every time I post, whether its a reply, my own thread or my journal. I can't help it lol. I could just keep talking/writing about it.

But, I'll get on with tonights workout results. I'm going to have to compare it to last weeks.

SHOULDERS
& TRAPS: 2 OF 6
Smith, Front Press: 345lbs @ 7sec, 365lbs @ 7sec, 375lbs @ 7sec
DB Side Delt: 30lbs @ 7sec, 30lbs @ 7sec, 30lbs @ 7sec (struggled a little on my last set)
Front BB Raises: 90lbs @ 7sec, 95lbs @ 7sec, 105lbs @ 7sec
Rear Delt, Reverse Rows: 300lbs @ 7sec, 310lbs @ 7sec, 315lbs @ 7sec
Upright Cable Rows: 160lbs x 10reps, 160lbs x 10reps, 170lbs x 10reps
Shrugs: 475lbs @ 7sec, 495lbs @ 7sec, 495lbs @ 7sec

Great numbers in comparison! I'm happy but I want to hit that heavy weight that shocks me again. I felt like I was going up every set and couldn't find it.

Haven't posted in a while. Haven't really felt like it. I rested over the weekend after my last post and hit it hard monday night with chest and tri's and legs/quads/calves last night. I'll post it in 2 different replies.

CHEST AND TRI'S: 3 OF 6
Bench Press: 415lbs @ 7sec, 425lbs @ 7sec, 435lbs @ 7sec
Incline Press: 395lbs @ 7sec, 395lbs @ 7sec, 395lbs @ 7sec
Cable Flyes: 92.5bls @ 7sec, 92.5lbs @ 7sec, 92.5lbs @ 7sec
Dips: 135lbs + res @ 7sec, 135lbs + res @ 7sec, 135lbs + res @ 7sec
Skull Crushers: 225lbs @ 7sec, 235lbs @ 7sec, 245lbs @ 7sec
V-Bar Tricep Pulldown: 170lbs @ 7sec, 170lbs @ 7sec, 180lbs @ 7sec

Numbers are looking better and better every week. This stuff really is working but the tendons in my forearms are giving me hella trouble. They hurt considerably and I'll just keep trying to stretch them

Last night was Legs, quads and calves. It was a pretty good workout as far as numbers. I could have probably lifted a ton harder though. I felt like **** the entire time in the gym and that day cuz I didn't sleep at all the night before. I was up writing a paper/speech all night in which I got an A on I slept yesterday afternoon for about 6-7 hours and lifted last night. Feeling alot better today and back on track. I really need to fix this tendon problem in my forearms though. ugh it hurts and effects my lifts. Especially nights like tonight: Back and Bi's

But I'll get on with last nights workout.

LEGS/QUADS/CALVES: 3 OF 6

leg Press: 1080lbs + res @ 7sec, 1080 + res @ 7sec, 1080lbs + res @ 7sec
Squats: 260lbs x 10reps, 275lbs x 8reps, 295lbs x 5reps ( I really need to get that 6th)
Hack Squats: 140lbs x 10reps, 160lbs x 8reps, 180lbs x 6reps ( Got em all tonight!!)
Leg Extensions: 285lbs + res @ 7sec, 285lbs + res @ 7sec, 285lbs + res @ 7sec
Backward Lunges: 45lbs x 10reps, 45lbs x 10reps, 45lbs x 10reps
Calf Raises: 105lbs x 30reps, 105lbs x 30reps, 105lbs x 30reps
