Ahh, it felt great to do deadlifts. The rest of my workout just reminded me how weak the rest of my upper body is, but I can always go back to my beloved DLs and feel invincible.

BACK/BICEPS 6/6

Warm Up: Deadlifts 85x12, 85x10, 115x6, 135x3

Working Sets:
Deadlifts 170x6, 170x6, 170x6

Holy Moly! I just started basic DL and felt challenged at 185! Not a big deal until you realize I'm 5'-11" and 215lbs!!

RE: Jenng's Journal - Thursday, June 10, 2004 6:02 AM
My running on Monday and Tuesday really took a toll on my quads. They were really sore last night before my leg WO, so I decided to go a little light on my squats. I hope my body can get used to the running a little more, so it doesn't continue to interfere with my lifting.

LEGS 6/9

Warm Up: Squats 75x12, 75x10, 105x6, 125x3

Squats: 155x6, 155x6, 155x6
SLDLs: 165x6, 165x6
Leg Press: 270x6, 270x6
Calf Press: 250x12, 300x10
Standing Calf Raises (Smith): 135x11, 185x8

(It's been awhile since we worked calves, so we decided to hit them hard last night.)

Todays chest day did not leave me as frustrated as last weeks, since I was able to push more reps (by myself) at 105. I guess I'm getting stronger, slowly but surely.

BB Flat Bench 105x4, 105x6(!), 105x5
DB Incline 40x6, 40x6
BB Decline 100x8
Tricep DB Overhead Ext 30x6, 30x6, 30x6
CGBP 70x6, 70x6

Good work. Keep this up and you'll be outbenching me soon (my chest is so weak... benching makes me sad).

Wow, amazing how a person can get so incredibly winded and sweaty just lifting weights. I keep upping my deadlift weight and keep doing 3 sets of 6, someday somethings gotta give. I think I might stick with 175 for one more week, to make sure I am getting my butt down low enough. But man, these were tough! (I think I say this every week...)

BACK/BICEPS 6/13

Warm Up: 85x12, 85x10, 115x6, 135x3

Deadlifts 175x6, 175x6, 175x6
Bent Over Rows 105x6, 105x6, 105x6 (I hate these!)
CG Lat Pull Down 130x4, 130x4
Good Mornings 85x6, 85x6
DB Curl 25x6, 25x6
Hammer Curl 20x6, 20x6
BB Curl 50x6, 50x5

Cardio day. I could not keep up what I did last Monday. So instead of shooting for 2 miles, I just told myself to run for 20 mins. I kept feeling this weird chest pain, right in my sternum area. And I was keeping my HR around 160-165, which is a moderately high intensity workout for me (I sometimes get up to 177-180 during sprints), so I'm not sure what it was. But I figured I didn't want to keel over at the gym with my son stuck at the daycare center, so I kept the intensity down.

CARDIO - TREADMILL 6/14

Total Time: 37 mins
Total Calories: 500
Total Distance: 2.75
Distance Jogged: 1.75 (20 mins)

RE: Jenng's Journal - Tuesday, June 15, 2004 6:51 PM
I am tempted to complain about how hard my Tuesdays are, and then I think about the last 10 weeks of WDN's journal, and I feel compelled to quit whining and keep typing. (Although it is hard to get up for some serious cardio after some serious lifting...)

SHOULDERS/TRAPS/ABS/CARDIO - 6/15

Warm Up: 20x12, 20x10, 25x6, 30x3

DB Press: 35x5, 35x5, 35x6
Smith Mil Press: 90x6, 90x6
Reverse Flyes: 97.5x4, 97.5x4 (was trying for 90, didn't see the 7.5 lb weight on there til it was too late)
DB Lateral Raises 20x5, 20x5

Superset (I was trying to speed things along):
Incline Crunches 12, 12, 9
Standing Shrug Machine 180x8, 180x8, 180x8

Hanging Leg Raises 12, 12, 12

Cardio - Treadmill 17 mins
2 min warm up
1 mi = 11 mins
4 min cool down
Total cals: 200+
Total Distance: 1.40

My god, I wish I had as much dedication to this contest as you do! Keep up the great work! I think you'll be the one who takes the cake come July!

Thanks, Slayer. I just want to hit my goal of being under 200 by July 1st. Not sure it's gonna happen at this pace, but I can keep on trying.

Great leg day today. My right hip only felt like there were shards of glass scraping together in it for my first set of warm ups. After that, I felt great. Also, my quads were not as sore as last week, so my legs must be getting used to the running. Since my hip seems to be improving, I'm hoping I can finally start bumping up my squat weight and get where I think I should be, proportionately. Oh, and that blasted hack squat machine has been my nemesis for weeks now. And today I was able to crank out 6 reps at a higher weight, almost butt to the ground. AND I hit a huge new high for calves. Someone must have slipped something into my morning oatmeal today....

LEGS 6/16

Warm Up: Squats 80x12, 80x10, 115x6, 135x3

Squats: 165x6, 165x6, 165x6
SLDLs: 165x6, 165x6
Hack Squat Machine 120x6, 120x6
Calf Press: 320x10, 320x10, 320x10

Did my least favorite cardio workout today. Which is kind of like saying my least favorite country music song or my least favorite fried insect. Hard to have a most favorite when you dont like the genre all together.

CARDIO - ELLIPTICAL SPRINTS 6/18

Warm Up: 5 mins
5 30/30 sprints
2 min recovery
3 30/30 sprints
3 min recovery
2 30/20 sprints
5 min hill
5 min cool down

Total Cals: approx 400

Blech.

BTW, my calves are absolutley killing me today from:

Calf Press: 320x10, 320x10, 320x10

I think I need to start taking a pre-workout prozac on Saturdays, to keep me from getting depressed about my weak upper body. Just didn't have a good groove this afternoon.

CHEST/TRICEPS 6/19

Warm Up: Flat Bench 55x12, 55x10, 75x6, 85x3

Flat Bench: 105x5, 105x6, 105x5
DB Incline 40x4, 40x4 (with help. I tried the 45's since I did the 40's last week, and flailed around under the DBs like a fish out of water, tiring myself out, but lifting nothing )
BB Decline 105x6 (how come I can do the same for decline as my flat bench, does that make any sense?)
DB Overhead Tri Ext 35x6, 35x6, 35x6
CGBP 75x6, 75x6
Tricep Pushdown 90x6

It seems like looking back on your journal, everything is alright but chest. Is this where you have a sticking point?

RE: Jenng's Journal - Saturday, June 19, 2004 12:36 PM
Yeah, I feel like I struggle so hard on the chest exercises and just cant move up much. Today it seemed like my triceps were the weak point. At one point, I got my left DB up, but could straighten my arm. It just sort of got stuck there at a slight bend in the elbow. So we were guessing that it was a tricep weakness. I struggle with the lower part of the bench press, too.

But, I work my tris just like any other exercise. So I'm just not sure what's up. Nothing that's gonna make me give up, though. I just want to be stronger!
