I'm confused, how can you tow several boats weighing so much by swimming? Surely there's just not enough force one man can propell through the water with just his limbs to tow that much weight which should easily pull him in another direction because of the current alone?

It's true, Virt. All that said he actually did...freakishly inhuman. He wasn't even too big, do a yahoo or Google search on him for more information.

This sounds like a character from a movie that just wasn't possible, but all of those are correct.

I look up to the guy, all natural.

DAMN!

Now that's some serious strength!

1,013 push ups in 23 minutes is unbelievable...I mean just the endurance it would take to do anaerobic exercise for 23 minutes straight, it's just plain phenomenal.

Yep, that was him. I searched his juicer earlier... well I searched "fit man makes juicer" because he was brought up during a conversation I had with a friend and I couldn't think of his name.. I searched a lot of names.

"Jack the juicer man"

"Jack made a juicer"

"Jack the fit man that made a juicer with his wife".

It didn't bring up anything... eventually I asked someone that remembered.

I'm not doubting he did it, I'm just kinda after the science behind how a human can propell through the water with enough force to pull that much mass. You see these guys on WSM pulling firetrucks and stuff which weigh huge amounts but they are massive guys and more importantly are using the friction of the ground to move an object on wheels. So I'm puzzled as to how it's possible to get that momentum in water.

You have it backwards... the whole difficulty with pulling pushing an object on the ground, is fighting the friction... it does not work with you it works against... the hardest part is getting started.... breaking the hold.

With boats... they are designed to "sit" on the water, and if they are unladen,  then they sit ever higher... very light weight. Think about little tiny tug boats... in relation to the astronomically large ships they guide in and out of harbors, just a little nudge and they go flying... Not saying what Jack did wasn't crazy hard, or anything... crazy impressive.... but it is a deceptive feat of strength in that what is capable, is more visually astounding than the reality is... yet again, so someone doesn't get the wrong idea.... really f'in totally impressive.

I have a Picture of Jack from 1942, he was huge. The pic shows him lifting another big guy in the air with one arm while laying on his side. I'll have to throw it up here for a view.

What gets me is how he was all natural.

Wetdawg are you sure that wasn't edited? That sounds nearly impossible, then again, so do the rest of us statistics.

Its in a LIFE Magazine I have from 1942. I need to scan it and post it. I'm off this weekend and should be able to. I don't think the did much to photos back then that you couldn't detect.

He was an Elite in the Bodybuilding field during his time. 20-25 years ahead of Arnold. I was really suprised it was him when I saw the picture. I always saw him on TV when I was younger (early 70's), he looked way built in his late 20's (per picture).

Arnold couldn't compare to Jack, Jack was all natural and a all around more fit person, let's see Arnold do some of the things Jack did.

I honestly never really liked Arnold as a BBer, my favorite was always Milos Sarcev. If you watch the fit show, Milos gives great advice and Arnold said things extremely questionable.

Well, here is more info on him, he seems to have started Ballys Gym, inventor of the smith machine and the leg extensions.

I don't like the smith machines, I kinda like leg extensions, but regardless, I have mad respect for the guy.
