Is this a myth? - Thursday, July 10, 2008 8:55 AM
A lot of my friends are skinny and they stopped working out. They said first they have to gain weight and after the added weight they will hit the gym.
I was just wondering because i am skinny myself. Should I go on a weight gain diet or something but i don't get how the extra weight helps gain more muscle.

How are they going to gain weight exactly???

By not going to the gym???

If they add fat, then no, thats a myth, fats are completely different to proteins (and in particular alanine the main amino acid of muscle) and as a result its completely impossible to turn fat into muscle.

The reason people think you can is because fat people go into the gym and look "bulky", this is not muscle.

Time after time i get called "small" just because i dont have that bulked look, its mainly stated by ignorant people who dont know about muscle or bodybuilding.

Again, complete myth.

If they want to add muscle weight, they need to build it at the gym.

The whole "teenagers filling out stage" is also mostly fat, and not everyone has the filling out stage, depends on the persons metabolism.
Thats right guys, sugars in fruits are bad, they are simple sugars which will make you FAT, I mean we all know monkeys eat mainly fruit and look! THEYRE VERY FAT!
Site will be up soon it didnt like me copying and pasting for some strange reason

Dont stop!!! If you work hard and eat right you will gain muscle. I believed this too when I was a begginer and very skinny. The only advantage heavier kids have is that they would probably eat more, which would result in more muscle gain. Continue to lift hard but watch what you eat and look up some articles on bulking and the nutrition that goes with it. I believe there are a bunch of really good articles on this site if you just look around.

haha.. you're friends are highly misled.

muscles atrophy (shrink) if they aren't used.. so by not going to the gym and eating all day, they're just going to throw some fat on the body.

but when you LIFT hard and BULK (eat tons of food)... your body will distribute this weight all over.   some will be as fat, but your muscles will grow.    and THEN you can incoorporate cardio and lower your calories and wash away the extra fat and have some nice muscles underneath.  that's how it's done.

your friends =   wrong.

Never heard that before.. but it's pretty funny.  Get fat first.. then workout.

Sounds like a plan to create your own "fat loss how I did it" program and make millions.

no, thats terrible.

Thats what makes it harder to get to where you wanna be.  A scrawny little ecto with 11" arms will be big and cut faster than your average fat kid.  Tha more fat you have on starting, tha longer its gonna take.
