Is this a good drink to be drinking - Wednesday, October 05, 2005 11:39 PM
Hey, I'm Sam and i'm 17. I've just started doing wieghts casually, about every second day.  I Don't really have any goals as of yet, eccept to see a noticeable different in my arms and stomache. Every second day I do about 3 sets of 10 bicept curls (10kg, dumbells), 3 sets of 15-20 pushups, 3 sets of 10-15 wrist curls (5kg) and i try to do about 3 sets of 10 crunches (slow ones with 5 second pauses). Ill start skipping soon to burn some fat for my stomache as well. Does this sound like I should see some good improvements?

Also, I know I should be eating right, but im pretty fussy. I got some advice from a freind for this drink to help me get some extra nuitrients:

2 eggs (should i use more?)
Milk
Sugar

That should be at least 20 grams or more of protein, If i drink one of those a day will it help me. Or is it exremely fattening or something bad like that? I have been drinking them and they taste pretty good!
(ive also tryed raw egg which upsets my stomache haha)

Cut out the sugar! Read what it says on a pack of sugar: Energy per 100 gram - 400kcal, of which is protein 0g, carbs 100g, fat 0g. Cut it out! You should use more eggs, yes. The eggs I use are about 50g each. 100g of those are 150kcal, 13g of protein and 10g of fat. So, 4 eggs make 300kcal and 26g of protein (and 20g fat). One deciliter of milk is 3.3% protein, and one glass usually contains 2-2.5dl, so if you drink one glass of milk and eat four eggs you should get about 32-35g protein. Of course, you'll need that every 3-4 hours and not just once a day. You should eat 4-7 meals a day. So if you're awake 16 hours a day and you want 30g of protein every 4 hours that makes the equivalent of 4dl of milk and 16 eggs. Needless to say egg white and milk aren't the only protein sources, so naturally you won't have to eat 16 eggs a day. Get yourself some protein powder, it shouldn't be more than $30 for a decent one.

I agree with Westgrove, cut out the sugar, and pickup some decent protein powder. milk is great, it has protein plus other nutrients that are good for you.

Try to develope some more specific goals, like how much do you want your arms to grow, and by what date, it will help. Generally speaking, it's easier to keep track of progress when you can measure it, and have specific goals tp compare to, plus it will help push you, just make sure they are realistic. For your abs, you're only gonna see defenition if you cut down body fat%, so you'll wanna keep track of that, probably once at  beginning of training, then once per month or so afterward.

The abs are a stubborn muscle group, and take a lot of work to change. Unlike most muscle groups,You can work your abs almost everyday . I used to do 100+ situps a day (5 x 20-25) 5 days a week, and had decent abs, but my body fat was about 9%, so they were just starting to show. You could have the best abs in the world, but if your body fat  isn't low enough, you'll never see them.

Good luck, and don't give up!
