Ok I went to the gym today and talked to one of the guys there whos a personal trainer, He told me they can give me a personal diet based around what i want to do (which is get bigger) Its a 12 week program, every month they take you look you over and adjust your diet to how everything is going. Problem they want $500 is it really worth it? Or should I do more research? I need some help

U could work something out, 500 would not be worth it unless u were really unhappy with how u look...just my opinion...u could find a way.

Exactly, about the same thing was afford to me, so if youre lazy go ahead waste the 500. but if you got the time just look around this forum and others and youll find what you need.

Ya, in the nutrition forum you will find so much information and KNOWLEDGE about diets not just one given to you, If you took 5 hours MAX you could probably put together a better diet for yourself then any personal trainer. Just calculate your caloric intake and try and get 20-30% protein, 30-60% carbs, 10-20% fat

i would seriously think about it. while these forums are nice and all, almost no one here has any actual experiance in this field, whereas this guy has been certified and has made a career out of personal training, so he must know what he is talking about. it's true, you can get a wealth of knowladge here on the boards, and probably learn everything he would tell you. but then to apply that knowladge? no waiting or anything? he'll be the one to keep you on track. if you go just off what you read and it doesn't work, then what? you then have to design a new diet. so yes, you probably could learn everything you know. but the trainer has some serious benefits you should consider. 500 is a lot, though. to bigross: it is inevitable that you will gain some fat while bulking. the best thing you can do is a clean bulk, where you still eat really healthy (whole grains, etc). find you maintainance calories, and just go 500 above that. aim for around 1.5-2 grams of protein per body weight. each gram of protein has 4 calories. keep you fat reletively low, around 60-80 per day, with each gram containing 9 calories. the rest is carbs. simple. and you see, i just told bigross what he should do. but i don't have any formal training. it's all based on my personal experiance and countless articles i've read. the guy at the gym will have this and more.

Yeah, but some people like to try and do things for themselves.....in my opininon its fun to find a workout and nutrition plan and base things on ur learnings...then when it works u feel excellent, I mean how hard is to gain weight and mass..not very hard.

Hmmm, Deweydog makes an excellent point in that this guy actually has knowledge in what he's talking aobut, not just an opinion. But 500 dollars i personally think is a bit steep. If you know what stuff to filter out, just stick to bodybuilding magazines and such. I wouldn't do it.

I would stay away from it, unless you lack discipline or you just want a better body without the knowledge. Which dont feel bad, its like having a bad ass car and not knowing how to work on it. The best way to learn anything is to just do some reading, talk to some guys that have been in the game for a long time, take all the knowledge on different aspects of lifting and nutrition, then experiment. How do you think a lot of these pro bodybuilders know so much? Yeah it takes time and you might get discouraged if a plan you made up for yourself fails, but that is why you are experimenting. Everyones body is different, like me, I can build muscle and get down real low on my bodyfat percentage with just working out and doing cardio, not even caring about what I eat, others are the opposite. I have experimented with lifting, cardio and nutrition (to a certain extent), and have had many plans not go the way I wanted, but why do you think they look you over so well every month? They are seeing if the plan they made for you is working, if not they change it. Just experiment with it and give every workout plan, cardio routine and nutrition advice a try. I have been doing this for years, and I have succeded and failed numerous times. Thing is though, you dont ever want to stick with the same plan, ever. Your body will get used to it and adapt to it, change up your plan every 5 to 8 weeks, and you will be surprised at all the changes you will see. Which is another great thing about experimenting with all this, you keep your body in a constant state of guessing and not being able to get used to any plan you throw at it. Plus it wont cost you 500 dollars.

am i going to trust some dude off the internet who claims he knows what he's talking about or someone who has proof right there that they know what they are talking about. any kid can claim he is a personal trainer and that you should listen to him. not to discredit those on this site or anything, but i tend to take the majority of the info off this site with a few grains of salt. besides, i'm not telling him to, i'm just telling him to think about it. is it worth 5.95 a day?

yes, thank you, i realize that there are many members who are bodybuilders and who do indeed know what they are talking about. but for every person who knows what they are talking about, there are 5 who don't. the number of posts you have doesn't mean anything. you could ask 5000 questions, but that wouldn't make you qualified to tell others how to train. sorry to break it to you dude, but you can't trust everything you read on the internet.
