Hey everybody!

I've been working out (weight lifting) for years.  I enjoy the fruit of my labor and have quite a competitive streak.  The last couple of years I've thought about entering a figure competition, though I must admit I know little to nothing about it - just what I read in Iron Man.  Sooo ... I have a lot of work to do in order to figure out if competing is for me.

I work so hard and I'd love to have something to show for it (other than the health and fitness I already enjoy), but before I even begin to do research, I was hoping to have a couple of questions answered here by someone with more experience.

First off, how old is too old?  I'm already 35 years old (which is part of what has held me back).  I wonder if I've discovered my passion too late in life to do anything with it?  Also, I hear a lot about dehydration as part of prep for a show.  I'm opposed to that (primarily because I'm a type I diabetic).  Do figure competitors dehydrate themselves for competition?

1 - you are never too old in general but...
2 - some of the best figure gals are in the mid 30s and 40s due to the muscle density and maturity!
3 - it is a great goal which you seem to be ready for to take you to that next level.

Go to lindacusmano.com and register free, then go into the download section and get yourself a free copy of my Figure Basics eBook, this will help guide you with the basics, planning etc.
I am always here for questions or feel free to PM, email me, post me here or at any of the many sites and forums I mod and frequent!!
Best wishes on your decision, I hope to hear from you again with some news of a contest date ahead!!  Choose one a year away so you can go watch it this year and compete next year with an audience perspective.  Watching will tell you alot about the politics and bodies chosen.
Linda
