Is this normal????????????? - Thursday, March 19, 2009 4:24 PM ( #1 )
I just started lifting this week. I am doing each major muscles groups twice a week. On sunday i was doing curls and when i was doing them i was watching in a mirror to make sure my form was right. Is it normal for your forearms to give out before your biceps? cause mine did. Also yesterday a was curling again(last time for this week) and the same thing happened. However, this time my muscles really werent sore at all after the exercise. The first time i did it they were sore for two days. they were tight and that kind of stuff.  But this time nothing. Is that normal?

By "give out" do you mean you couldn't move the bar up for another curl? Its a combination of all your arm muscles that fatigue. You may not notice failure of the bicep as much due to it being bigger.

All I know is that I have been lifting for about two years and I have the same problem. Forearms fatigue usually quicker that your biceps because it is not only giving out constant tension by holding the weight, but it is also a neglected muscle like the calves or neck. In order to get the most out of your bicep workouts, you have to train the forearms (grip) to sustain the weight that your arms can carry.

Consider the classic example of doing arms and chest on the same day: Work the chest first because your arms tire faster than the larger pec muscles. So in order to get the most out of your chest you must use your arms at their peak of performance (before you focus on them).

what's your routine?

coz i was doing 5 day splits and had the same issue. I do not know what I did wrong or what I should havfe done to get out of that.

However I started doing full body splits and after 2 months on fullbody [without any isolations], I started to include isolations into the end of the routine and found that my grip strength has increased phenomenally and when I did the BB curls with perfect form, the biceps DID fatigue before the forarms. The forearms were still pretty good.

if you cant lift in until you use your biceps the weights probaly to heavy. try a lighter weight that you can get a good pump out of your biceps it would be more beneificiall.

Too add to that- Forearms should catch up to your upper arm muscles within a couple months of constant and consistent lifting.

How about you stop worrying so much about curls and squat deadlift bench OH Press and do rows first..

rippetoe once went at a guy with something like .. "you snob-nosed barbell curling pussy, dont you ever dare to post in here with reference to bb.com... etc etc ".

the guy was a teenager and arguing about the dangers of squat.

Curling is a great exercise, I don't think many can argue with that..but it isn't a major lift, and when I see some people curl for an hour straight 4 times a week a little bit of me dies.
