Is this a good workout? - Tuesday, February 10, 2009 6:23 AM ( #1 )
Okay well im 16...5'10 and 162 pounds
 
Monday
Chest and biceps
3x3 or 5x5 flat bench
5x5 incline bench or 5x5 overhead press
3x8 swiss ball dumbbell bench or 3x8 incline flys
3x10 hammer curl or 10,8,6 barbell curls
3x10 chin ups
3 sets of farmers walks heavy weight with rest in between or 6 sets lighter weight without stopping
Workout Abs
 
Wednesday
Legs and Shoulders
3x3 and 5x5 Back squat and  (will cycle through pause squats and front squats)
10x3 stiff legged deadlifts
10x3 lunges or 10x3 step ups...or a superset with the two
5x5 push press
10x3 lateral raise and front delt raise superset
10x3 dumbbell swing throughs
5x5 barbell shrugs( will cycle through dumbbell and overhead shrugs)
Glute ham raises
 
Friday
Back and Triceps
3x3 and 5x5 Trap bar deadlift (will cycle straight bar deads and powercleans)
5x5 bent over barbell row
5x5 cable rows(will cycle through inverted rows and dumbell rows)
5x5 close grip bench(will cycle through with weighted dips)
10x3 skull crushers( will cycle with tricep pulldowns)
10x3 wide grip pull ups
Workout Abs
 
On some Saturdays i do ten 25 yard sprints...but i only do it once every other week because it destroys my legs
 
Feel free to critique my workout.....advice appreciated

haha no!

always do back with biceps
and chest with triceps.. its not just more efficient, its a tachnicallity, you cant do one without doing the other

(i had i funny little note to add onto that about twins alcohol and frat parties.. but nothing i need to get banned for)

yea man pair the chest and tris , and the back and bis ... but more importantly .... What are your goals?

i have to disagree.  this is a fine routine imo.   there is nothing wrong with doing chest/ bi and back/tri.  It hits them 2 different days and leaves you with enough energy to hit them.  Doing them back/bi and chest/tri tires some people out and they are not able to efficently work the smaller muscles.  Im more of a fan of full body routines but i think you got a nice split routine there.

you know ranger does prove a point as well ... lol. But i too am a fan of the full body workouts... Ranger what does your full body routine look like?

i agree, its just know to be more traditioal to work them on the same day. that and b/c i do am a fan of full body workouts so i see it as "work the whole system at once and be dont with it"

yeah i get what you are saying pastor.


nrod my current routine is
 tuesday- squat 5x5
                bench 5x5
                powerclean 5x5
                tri push down 3x10    
                barbell curls 3x10
                 Pull ups (if i feel like it)
 thursday- squat/front squat 3x5
                    OH press 5x5    
                    Deadlift 5x5

saturday- squat 4x5, 1x3, 1x8
                bench 4x5 , 1x3 , 1x8
                rows 5x4
                weighted dips to failure (usually about 12-15 with 50lbs)
                pullups
                

the 5x5 is ramping weight to the top set, 1 x 3 on saturday is moving up in weight (usually 5lbs) , then useing that weight for my top set of 5 on tuesday the following week for bench and squat.   i also do weighted decline sit ups on what ever day i have time.   i move up in weight for deadlifts and OH press as quickly as i can (usually every workout or every other workout)

 i did my leg and shoulder workout today....Im going to be sore as hell tomorrow

but you know when i do chest my triceps get weaker and i am not able to push as much weight on my triceps workouts. Same with Back and biceps...I do less weight with biceps so i feel like my biceps are not at its max potential when i am working out
