Hi, I am a newbe but I really want to ask this question : Is body-building Art ? Many artists work with their body as a material, but what about you ? How do you feel it ?

I dont really feel like it is art. I guess it could be... anything can be art. Arnold said that it was, he said he was like a sculpter, but instead of chipping away he puts it on in places he sees he needs it. I dont feel like it is...

I feel as if bodybuilding can be art...much like a sculpture can mold his clay,so can we,shape our bodies into a more aestheically pleasing form...so sure...it can be looked upon as art.

I always thought of it as an art, but there is very little creative innovation. Most people are striving for the same arbitrary ideal physique.

I don't know if it is so little creative. What do you think is this "same arbitrary ideal physique" ? Because I feel like this model evolves a lot. The bodybuilder of the early 20th does'nt look like the 21th's one. And as an extreme example, I am absolutaly amazed to watch the pictures of the 19th women with their so thin waist.

body building is as much of an art as painting or sculpting is. when i look at a person who has devoted their lives to taking their bodies to optimal physical physique, i'm in awe because they've taken something around 8 pounds at birth, and made it into something so beautiful. i guess you just have to be passionate like me

Well i can say that im an artist because i am real good at painting and drawing (best in my high school according to tha teachers) but im not just an artist because i draw/paint/whatever. Everyone is an artist and everything that you do is art. Everyone is always trying to progress and make themselves into what they wanna be or see as the perfect image of themselves, like an image i have in my head before i go to tha canvas. Life is art.

I think of it more as a sport than I do as an art.
