I am more interested in DOMS Delayed-Onset Muscle Soreness

- if I feel it the next day on the muscle group I targeted, I think I did a good job on the work out...

I'm a big fan of the soreness myself, but I don't consider it a sign of a good workout. Why not? Well, you tend to get less sore from an exercise after you've done it for a little while -- regardless of how good your workout is. And you can also get sore from a pretty crappy workout if you're using your muscles in new ways.

Still, I prefer it to the pump, as the pump fades quickly, but the soreness can last for days.

Soreness to me is essential, if I dont get sore then I consider it a failed workout. When you workout a muscle you actually create microscopic muscle tears, thats what you feel the next morning. One of my favorite feelings might I add.
If you are doing the same workout over and over again your muscles adapt to that and you are no longer shocking the muscle, you need to shock the muscle by hitting it with different routines and other advanced techniques such as doing negatives and supersets. Check out my website to see the descriptions of negatives / supersets and more techniques like those.

Back to the pump, if you workout and dont feel bigger and fatigued after then thats bad. The Pump is essential for muscle growth

It's been a long, long time since I have felt soreness in a lot of my muscles- But I see my strength and size increasing. I don't think soreness or the pump are necessary at all when it comes to gains. In my opinion, I know I've had a great workout when I have pushed the muscle group a little beyond its capacity for the right amount of sets and reps. If I'm using a weight I can only lift for five reps or so, I know I've done my work regardless of how pumped I feel or how sore I feel the next day.

Ok, I just wanted to say I think your website is a terrible source of weight lifting informationa and you are going to damage young bodybuilders if they use your information. Supersetting EVERY workout is ridiculous and a great way to over train and burn out quicker than ever. You also have the beginniners doing WAY too many sets for their first few montsh of bodybuilding. A three day routine doing the whole body mon-wen-fri. is fine. You need to be more cautious with the information you post on the internet.

Um, Brian- If you're referring to Flavesta's website and not this one, please make that clear- For a second there, I thought you were talking about DiscussBodybuilding.

At first I thought Brian meant this site (DB) but upon reading his post, it's a reply to flavesta and his site that is on his signature. Brian also posted this comment where the website was directly listed. On THAT site, supersets are talked about in an article.

I can't speak for Brain but I don't think he was referring to DB.

Continuing on.. cpl is correct. Supersets are a viable alternative to spicing things up and should be done once in a while. I agree with that statement.

Neither the pump or muscle soreness is the ultimate indicator of a good workout. If you get sore it means that you hit the targeted muscles, but if you get too sore you have probably stepped into the realm of overtraining and your recuperative ability will be sidelined. The pump is a good way to bring blood and enricherd nutrients to the muscles as well as oxygen. It also helps to flush out lactic acid and toxins.Plus it feels pretty damn good!!However you don`t need either one for the workout to be productive.
