RE: Introduce Yourself - Monday, April 11, 2005 7:40 PM ( #212 )
Hi all, I'm a 22 year old college student in my final year. Before my last 2-3 years of college and even more in highschool I used to work out regulary. In highschool I had a routine specifically made for highschool football players. In college I did a routine I got off a website called skinnyman or something like that. Since then I've tried to get back inot the gym without success.

Now I'm looking for a routine but I'll post more about that later.

I'm 6'1, 230, when I came to this university 5 years ago(its a 5 year university) I weighed 175. Yup I've gained 55 lbs in about 5 years. A good 20 lbs of it was muscle from when I lifted weights my freshmen and sophomore year. The other 35 is just from being lazy. I have naturally broad shoulders and big arms now I guess from all the arm workouts I've done.

Thats it for me, wish me luck.

RE: Introduce Yourself - Tuesday, April 12, 2005 7:23 AM ( #213 )
Age: 51
Height 5'7"
Starting weight: 204 (was 230 last year, but dieted w/o exercise & hit a wall)
Current weight: 190

I'm just the usual guy who has been overweight most of my life and haven't seriously exercised in 20 years. When I was young, I raced motorcycles for exercise and fun, but that only marginally worked the legs, shoulders, arms and back, giving me a good base to start on. I never seriously lifed weights, but played around with some the family had around the house.

Recently, at age 51, (call it a mid-life crisis) I have been thinking about my future, retirement, and my health to enjoy that time in my life. I look in the mirror and see fat pockets in the usual areas, breasts, lats and belly. My trendmill last year was pretty good, colestral and blood pressure are fine. Basically, good heath.

I have an extra room at the house because the kids are all gone and figure that a weight set, cable TV and central air are a good start to finding the ultimate exercise program for a guy who doesn't like the gym (been there, done that). I got a used Weider bench w/ bflys for $25 Ebay, and a couple of hundered pounds of weights, WT for Dummies and here I am.

Started playing with the weights about 6 months ago, but got into a serious routine (upper/lower) about a month ago. I lift four days a week, cardio 6 to 7 with a brisk 2 mile walk with changing elevations. Started on a serious diet and protien suppliment two time a day with some thermogen to increase my metabolism. I lost 12 pounds in 4 weeks and gained a fair amount of muscle in the back, arms and legs. I do about 100 crunches on the lower days too. My stomach has lost the bloat and I've dropped from a 40 to a loose 38 now. Wife says she can't believe it so far, although she was skeptical.

I figure I'm in the WLoss stage for about another month or two, before I get serious about wanting to bulk up. Gotta get rid of the fat to find my definition (for what it is). I'm sure if I could see more muscle, if the fat wasn't hiding it.

My diet consists of-

Breakfast: Protein drink M-M 5, pills, water. I take two thermogens, two thyroactivators, echanatia, daily vit, fish oil.

Mid Morning: Walk 2 miles, 1000mg C, and 400mg E, bottle of water. When I get back I have some protien, 2 egg whites or half a protien bar & a serving of fruit (banana or whatever I have).

Lunch: 3-4oz glrilled fish or chicx (no breading) & small salad w/ a little bit of rice vinegar (low sugar) & lemon for dressing.

Afternoon: Protein drink, another round of C & E before my workouts (1hr.) and more water.

Dinner: More fish or chix and some vegees, no starch, or very little for a treat.

I don't drink coffee, haven't drank alcohol in 15 yrs. Haven't smoked in 20. Only drink water, lots and lots of water. Sometimes, club soda for a treat. I haven't had refined sugar for years. Splenda or Equal only if necessary.

Bedtime snack: Fresh fruit, or ptrotien drink smoothie with fresh fruit.

All in all, a low carb/low fat diet with no sugars. Can't stand sweet sodas.

Routine consists of the usual freeweight stuff. Usually 3 sets of 10 reps for all.

Upper:
Bench 100
Bflys 50
Lateral Raise 15
Front raise 15
Shrugs 50
Wrist curls (lift and curl) 15
Kickbacks 15
Pushups 50

Lower:

Floor:
Back extensions
Leg lifts (L/R side)
Crunch
Twist crunch
Bicycles 100
Squats (no weight yet) 50

Bench:

Leg lifts 50
Leg curls 50

Any advice to this would be appriciated. Enjoy the DBoard as I'm all alone in this thing.

RE: Introduce Yourself - Tuesday, April 12, 2005 8:42 AM ( #214 )
Goodmorning all!

I'm 21 years old. I'm six feet tall. I weigh 190lbs, my lean wieght is about 172/173 lbs. I have done pt (physical training), for the past three years. The trouble is it's mostly pushups, situps, and running around three miles, and that's it. While it keeps me in relativley good shape I'm not satisfised with the way my body looks. I've just gotten motivated recently. About two months ago I decided to do something about it. I don't have much as far as definition is concerned, a little, but not much; my strength is probabaly above average, but my dedication to things I start is very impressive. I did cardio for the first month (last month), and I just started addiding weights into the equation. I've lifted before not very seriously, but in high school I played basketball and was taught (atleast what I think), proper technique, diet, and lifting basics. I've applied what I feel to be basic theory into my regimen and I've gotten quick results in these past two months. My delima, however, is that I don't have alot of free time. I'm currently serving with the 3rd Infantry Divsion in Baghdad, Iraq. My sleeping, eating, and excersize, routine is anything but. It changes daily, so sleeping 6-8 hours a day is someimtes possible, but not always, and eating 6-8 small meals a day, well lets just say I'm doing the best that I can. I use nuts, and dried fruit for in-between meals, because the DFAC (or place where they serve chow is only open certain hours of the day), and it's not like I can go to a local grocery store to get what I need. Anyways, I'm getting gains with what little I can do; 45-60 minutes of fat burning cardio (130 targeted heart rate), 6-7 times a day, and lifting weights with basic principle in mind 3setsx8-10reps, roughly 6 times a week. My really only question (thus far), is I don't feel like I'm working hard enough any more. What I mean is, after my workouts, when I first started, I was sore, achy, and I could FEEL that I worked hard. After talking to the PA and DOC here on post I was given some tips in reducing that pain, i.e. cardio after lifting, loads of water, 5-6 small meals a day (30% carbs, 30%, protien, and 30% fat), and a some other stretching tips. Well they've helped, but now I'm not sure if it's the change or I'm just not pushing myself as hard. I feel as if I am, and I'm gaining in wieght and varrying my routine (well I've changed it twice now), my question is why don't I feel the "burn" anymore? Also any other just general tips. I'm not trying to impress anyone, but I would like to do my job better and have my physique benefit from the effort. My realistic goals are to be roughly 180-185 lbs with around 8-10%body fat in about 4 months, is that too far fetched, or can I acheive more?
Thanks for the ear, and I hope this site gives me tools to further my healty lifestyle.

Thanks again
Trick

LeeLa. Forget about mispelling Nav's name. He's a big old lovable cat. Nothing to lose a hair ball over. Welcome. Any friend of Weapon X is a friend of DB. I like the maroon trunks, too, but a couple of my competitors were wearing similar colors, so I wanted to make a statement. The royal blue worked fine. Won First Place wearing those colors. Anyway, we're glad to have you with us. Don't let any of us drive you away. Stand your ground and stay tough, and have LOLs.

Hey, Trick. Welcome. You have a lot of "True Grit" my man. Lots of support here. Keep posting and help us get to know you. Ask a lot of questions. Most of the men and women on this site are serious, while having a good time bantering back and fourth. And, most of us have had to overcome stuff to improve. It takes patience and dedication. Sounds like you have plenty of both. Glad you joined.

Hi All,
I'm 5ft 7'', 206 pounds and I've been lifting weight when I was 19. The biggest mistake I have done is working out without supervise or supervision and keep doing my chest workout, of cause it show some result but it look funny, like  cone. I’m trying getting back into shape, I been doing squatting a lot at my own mini gym, it a small room with equipment like power rider, weight bench, EZ barbell, a pair of dumbbell, barbell and abs sharper. Anyone care to comments what have I miss or forget for my small room mini gym? The gyms that I use to be a member always packs with young and older folk until I have to take turn and beside that is far from my apartment. Oh! Almost forget about my leg workout, it now more or less look comparable to my upper body and this time I will do it right, of cause with all the help peoples like all of you, that why I need some good advise and tip on isolation training, supplement and nutrition, I’m glad by chance while surfing the net, I found this forum. My goal at present now is to lose weight until I reach my ideal weight 148 and start gain some mass muscle and look fit, all it take is one step at the time.

RE: Introduce Yourself - Friday, April 29, 2005 4:27 PM ( #237 )
Hey people, my name is Will and I'm 36 years old.  I've been working out for (at least) 15 years now, off and on.  My current status is:
Height: 6'1
Weight: 225
BP: 385 (1 rep)
Squat: 315 (10 reps)
Deadlift: no clue

I don't have an accurate guess on my BF, but comparing my look now to years ago when I did keep track of it, I'm somewhere between 12-15% (at most).  I do run (treadmill) twice, sometimes three times a week-2.5 to 3 miles.  My diet is sharp, and about the only supplements I take are creatine, only on days I train, and protein drinks, LOTS of protein drinks and protein bars, and of course the normal vitamins.

I've had eight knee operations on one knee and I'm now a candidate for knee replacement, but I don't let it slow me down, too much.  My squats are not as strong as they once were, but I still do them.

After 15 years of training, there's no real surprises for me, so I do it for my sanity-it's a habit now, and without it, I'd go nuts.  Goals, and everyone working out should have them, but I don't-maybe get back over 400lbs. on bench.

I was reading over some prior threads and there's defintely some good info here and I hope to that I can learn some new things, and maybe help some beginners along the way.

Hi! I came across this site and thought it could be very useful! I just turned 25 and am really starting to seriously workout, mainly because I realized one day that I wasn't living my life to the fullest because of certain things like, not wanting to wear a bathing suit in public! I have been working out for about 3 years now, but really with not much change. I am 5 foot tall and I weigh about 108-110 lbs, but am the heaviest I have ever been. I am not really unhappy with my weight, but rather the appearance, like the tone (or lake there of) of my legs. I have never had the same shape in the leg department as most people are born with, I guess mosty due to genetics...and I sometimes feel that it is not going to be possible (which is very discouraging) . I was unfortunately born with very poor joints and flat feet. I have many questions about training that hopefully everyone can help me with!
