Well here it goes I am 44 5'2" 130 lbs, have high blood pressure(under control) , have one 14 yr old son 5'10"
200lbs(he is thinning out) I started back to exercising about a month ago, lost my job, great way to get out frustration, I think I have been dealing with the "stress hormone" Cortisol causing me to gain weight in the abdominal and backside LOL, I at one time in my 20s I was training for competition(light weight) got into a car accident Doc told me to stop cause I injured my back(should have gotten a second opinion anyway never strayed far from exercise, my son was born 6 weeks early, I developed precalmpsia, went from 104lbs pre-prego ballooooned to 150 overtime got back down to 119lbs, then the job loss, now I am riding a bike averaging 4 miles a day (weather permitting) run/walk intervals with my son, do push ups work with weights on exercise ball and do pilates on ball and floor, concentrating on my "core" diet is so so NO fast food yuk plenty of fresh veggies/fruit I do however have a weakness for butter!!, I dont know if my calorie intake is sufficient or what my resting metabolic rate is, currently I cant afford to get that checked, I am trying to get down to 115lbs, any ideas?
TIA Patricia

Hey, I'm new to this site. I'm 34 and started back in the gym pretty hardcore about 10 weeks ago after a 7 year break...I started slow but now am trying a couple different supplements. No-Xplode and Nitrix. I've gained about 7lbs and increased my "max" on bench already. So I'm pleased so far. I look forward to learning more on the site!

RE: Introduce Yourself - Tuesday, February 15, 2005 8:14 AM ( #156 )
For me I am taking a risk here, so bare with me for I am nervous.
I am a 38 year old mother of 5, 4 of whom I gave birth to. I am severly over weight and out of shape. I have started a work out routine at curves and have been "low carbing" my way. I have lost over 25 lbs and have lost over 30 inches total body. So I am doing good I think.
I would like to repair as much of the damage I have done to my body as possible and have no idea where to begin except for what I have already started. I really don't want to "bulk" but would like to become lean, and maybe defined.
Over all I have started this for myself and kids so I can be there when they have kids. Also, I am getting married in September and would like to look my best if possible, (nice short term goal).
I have no illusion of ever looking like a "super model". I just want to look the best I can be. My kids and my Guy are very supportive, so at least I have that. But, the more support the better.
I stumbled on this site looking for ways to optimize what I have already been doing. I have read Twin Peaks article on carb cycling (I am very addicted to them) and I'm wondering if this can be modified for someone like me who does not want to compete. Just repair her body.
My short term goal is to drop body fat and 2 clothes size by the summer (more realistic for one, but I like to aim high) and because I have had 4 children by c/section I would like to get rid of as much of the pouch the surgery and weight have left me.
I'm a busy person with work full time, Mother of 5, go to school, and teach HypnoBirthing.
Any help or encouragement is welcome. So far I really like this site, though I am still trying to get through the lingo. Look foward to hearing from people and reading the post.

Have a great Day

My short term goal is do go down at least one clothes size by the summer (my wedding is September 3rd) 2 sizes would be great!
For long term goal I would like to lose 120 lbs. Ideally I want to be in the best shape I can be in.
I have been circut training at curves for 30 min 3x's a week. and low carbing as in Nothing made of white flour or sugar and trying to stay with low glycimic veggies as well. I do try to eat 5 to 6x's a day, but with what I do for work and my busy home life it is hard to stick with that every day (I can't very well snack in the operating room)
I havn't been taking vitamins because I am over whelmed with whats out there and can't decide what would be the best to take, I would like to start supplmenting with omega 3, but again which bran to trust and how much. Protien shakes seem a great way to go to help with the 5- 6 meals a day, but again who do you trust? Which way do you go when your low carbing. More fat less carb, or more carbs less fat when it comes to protien shakes.
So there you go

welcome, Seek!

Have you posted in the nutrition forum?

When you say circuit training, are you talking about calisthenics or cardio? Ideally, you should spend about 30 mins doing some form of cardio, and 45-1hr (or less if you're a beginner) with strength training to acheive your ultimate results.

welcome to DB!

Hey fellow athletes. I'm new here so I guess I should stop by and say hi. Well a little about myself. I'm 15 turning 16 on June 10th, I weigh around 165 with about a 18 percent bf (I think). Lets see, my goals are to get stronger, bigger, and leaner (which I know, or have heard, that at my age it will take a while, but im patient) I've been working out pretty seriously for only about a month, and my short term goal as of now is to get bigger and stronger. After that I plan to cut and cut off any spare body fat that is left over. So I'm looking foward to get answers to many of the questions in my head. I'm off to the nutrition forum! Well anyways, Hi everyone.

Hey Im Dave Rhine im 5'4 150, i currently bench 195 3 times, and my parell squat is 3 sets of 15 with 205 on i am limited to exercises do to the different shoulder and hip issues. =/. I plan on getting my bench to 255 and my squat to 315. i am currently recovering from hip surgery and might have surgery on my left shoulder. I am most concern about staying injuries free this spring summer and fall. I seem to get a lot of injuries and don’t know why. So if anyone can help me get to the point where I can stay injuries free and not be In this rut of being injury prone that would be awesome. My goals are by the summer to have all my surgery’s/injuries be gone and be healthy enough So i can play football.

Hello all! I'm 36, 5'6" about 123lbs. I've been weight training for a few years - consistantly for 1 year. I like to train hard, lifting as heavy as I can for at least 8 reps 3 sets with good form.

Nice board

Hi guys.
I just started going more serious on fitness and is just starting to eat right and grow a bit more.

I do a straight 4-split, stay on top of nutrition, but also vegetarian (NOT VEGAN).
I am being especially conscious on eating right and often, and try not to mess up with sleep. (Kinda tough with my job-situation).

good to see you all.

Hello to all, -My name is Emily. I am a 26 year old mother of two, ages 31/2 and 4 -almost 5. I have always been very active, lifting wts and playing sports in high-shool/ the first two years of college. I got certified as a PT my freshman year of college and trained for about four years until just after my second child was born. I let my certification lapse and began my endeavors as a full time mom. During this time I became somewhat sparatic in my own training, but have always kept up with my reading on the world of fitness/exercise. I would still consider myself fit, I am about 5'7, 135 lbs, I haven't had my bf checked in quite a while so it will be interesting to see where I'm really at.
Anyway, I guess I'll get to the reason I came across the site. I have decided to recertify and get back into training, my kids are finally at a managable age and I have had an offer to join a few trainers and do some in-home training. I am looking forward to what this site has to offer me in information and advice so I can better serve my clients as well as myself. I as so looking forward to getting back out there!

Hi guys my 1st post here. I have been "lurking" for a while now and this site has some great info for a rookie like myself, thanks to all the people who take the time to maintain a site, like this one!!!

I have just turned 37 and have turned to weightlifting to help me achieve my fitness goals. I am 37, 5'9 and 270 pounds. I quit smoking almost 2 years ago and now that I have that nasty stinky addiction beat I am trying to get healthy(er). I am now in my 8th week of lifting and I will get some pics up soon. I have to say I am very happy with my results so far, but I have gained a few pounds instead of loosing weight.

Anyways HI all and see ya around.

RE: Introduce Yourself - Tuesday, March 01, 2005 7:14 AM ( #174 )
Howdy, folks. I'm Ceezer, down in South Carolina (originally from Ohio, but moved down here for a job in December). I'm 28, and have 8 years in the military (6 years Marine Corps, 2 years Army Reserves). I never put much effort into staying in shape while I was in the Corps, it just kind of came naturally, but in the last 5 years I've really gone downhill. I think part of it stemmed from the stress/emotion from losing my little brother in Feb 2000, and then the stress of maintaining my schedule from there on (I returned to school full time, ran a business, founded and ran a non-profit organization, attending conferences/meetings, weekend drills, household duties, plus a very active daughter).

With this new job, I've found some free time, and a new motivation to whip myself into shape. When I got out of the Corps, I was 5'11.5", 185lbs, and probably 14% bf. Now I'm 225lbs and around 25% bf, going from a 33" waist to 36". Needless to say, I'm overdue to do something about it.

I'm currently in my 5th week of working out, and starting to notice a few gains and a little definition in my arms, back, and legs. The chest is my problem area. I forgot to take some "before" pictures, but hope to get some taken within the next week or two.

The hardest part for me, so far, has been eating. Over the last 5 years, my daily intake usually consisted of 3 pots of coffee from morning to evening, then I would get hungry and binge around 8pm, so all that crap would lay there when I went to bed. If I did eat lunch, my schedule only permitted time for me to run through McDonalds for a double quarter-pounder meal... supersized... And as I mentioned, I grew up in the country on a small farm, with my grandparents right across the road, so I was usually stuffing myself to the gill when I'd eat, and when I was done, my grandma would force me to finish the rest up to save from storing leftovers.

There's still plenty of room for improvement (I also have a hard time remembering to take my protein & creatine, so I use it once or twice a week), but willing to put in any work necessary to make this life change.

Goals, I guess, are pretty simple. I'm not worried about how much I weigh, and in fact like being in the 220-225 range. I just want to bulk up some, and drop back down around 12-14% bf, and be able to dig those 33" jeans out of storage.

Glad to be here, and looking forward to sharing knowledge with y'all.

Ceezer

Ceezer. The gentleman above me is Nav. And, that is indeed all you need to know, except, you might want to wear a flack jacket on occasion when Nav is "on."

In the meantime, try eating five smaller meals per day: breakfast, protein shake, lunch, protein shake, dinner. Your metabolism will improve and you will begin cutting unwanted fat. Keep your protein up (egg whites, meat, fish, chicken, your fat low - skip the sweet stuff and junk food - and your carbs moderate. Lots of veggies and salad with low-fat dressing. Along with a sound fitness program, including weight training and cardio, you should quickly achieve the results you seek.

RE: Introduce Yourself - Wednesday, March 02, 2005 6:39 AM ( #177 )
I've been sticking with the frequent small meal plan for a few weeks, but its not getting any easier. Going to take a lot to make up for 28 years of bad habit (not that it was actually a bad habit, I just didn't know any better). I've also been limiting myself to 2 cups of coffee in the morning, opposed to 3 pots, and forcing myself to eat breakfast which has helped a lot. I've been feeling sluggish lately, but I'm hoping thats just my body adjusting, and will adapt and overcome. I'm not a sweets person (although there is a great bakery in this town, with some wicked awesome muffins, and the scones are great, too!), but I am a chip person. So when I get an urge, I usually try to fill the crave with a handful of peanuts, or some of the new "light" chips (the Doritos are 0g fat, the chips are 1g fat, per serving, and actually pretty good). I'm also a big salad fan. I've tried the fat-free ranch, but it tastes of spoiled eggs; the light version I can deal with.

I hate cardio, so right now I'm just working out after work to try and put some size on. As Summer nears closer, then I'll worry about trying to drop a few pounds with morning cardio.

Hi guys, i'm 16 your old male, 5'7". about 9% bodyfat, 150lbs. Just started a little softcore lifting for a few weeks now. I got a decent frame. just planing to get into a more serious workout basis. i got 2 questions for you guys. the first one is: is it normal to look muslcuar and strong, but in reality one's physical strength is not quite there yet with the looks? (that's what i have, just wondering if is 1st normal and 2nd how can i boost up my strength) my second question is: since i'm 16 and all. and i want to grow a bit more, is it okay to not work on the lower body (strength wise) yet? i mean, my father, once had a proffessional weightlifter coach, and he is very short, because he had started young. so if work on extreme workouts on my body, does that affect how i grow or not grow in height wise? And if this information helps: i'm asian. and i can run very fast when it comes to the 55 meters. well i hope you guys can help me learn more about fitness and bodybuilding- since i'm a beginner! thanks

Hi Guys my name is Greg, I am 42 years old. When I was 18 thru 21 I worked out every day. I was very proud of what I had accomplished given the fact that I only joined the gym because I like a girl who’s aunt and uncle owned the place and I wanted her to notice me. Long story short, she never did and I found out I like to body build.

That is until I met another girl at 21 years of age and sad to say never touched another weight since. ( she took all my time) you could say the song “Night Moves” from Bob Seger comes to mind when I think of her.
I am many years older now and need to do it for health reasons instead of looks.
I feel like a fish out of water right now, weighing 190 lbs and 5’ 7” Tired of looking and feeling fat. When I was body building Desiccated liver tablets were the rage and some stuff called “Malabar” It consisted of cow brain, groin and other parts of the old cow. When you put it in milk it turned into a round slimy ball and yes I drank that stuff.
Hoping to get into such a great way of life again. I have missed it for years.

Take care. Thanks for your time.
