I'm glad to have stumbled onto this forum!  My name is Jason.  I am 34 years old; I have a lovely wife and a son whose 14 months old.  My goals are to have a healthier lifestyle, cut the excess fat and replace it with some muscle.

I am 5' 11" at 237.5 lbs. (down from 252 lbs), I look like I have a monster truck tire mid section!  I am looking to drop into the 190-200 lbs frame.  I used to be this weight while serving in the military, but since then I have lost my way so to speak.

I look forward to reading all the information on the forum and asking questions also.  Hopefully I will be able to chat with everyone on the board, so don't be shy

RE: Introduce Yourself - Thursday, July 10, 2008 10:49 AM ( #994 )
Hello, everyone.  Just a note to introduce myself.  I am a 38-year-old father of 2 who is just getting into bodybuilding.  I have lifted weights for general health in the past, but admitedly after reading many of the threads have been doing it incorrectly - waste of time.  I have not been in the gym for 3.5 years so am basically starting from scratch.  I have never lifted to get bigger before so this is my first adventure of the sort and am already more psyched about it than all previous endeavors combined.

My goals may not be the same as many of you here.  I do not intend to get HUGE (just bigger).  I do not intend to compete but really admire those of you who do.  I do intend on getting bigger, stronger and in WAY better shape than I am in now.  Sitting at a desk for the last 12 years has aged me beyond my years and I will no-longer accept the inability to play all-out with my kids.  I will get stronger.  I will have more energy, and I will become the dad that is not embarrassed to take his kids to the pool.

In my early years, I was really skinny.  I'm 5'10" and graduated HS at 155 lbs.  Age and my sedintary life has packed on some pounds, but mostly fat.  With a lifestyle/diet change 2 months ago I have dropped 13 pounds and am now down to 174 lbs.  I am now ready to hit the gym seriously.  I have already read so many of the posts on here and am thrilled with the knowledge.  Thank you.  I look forward to sharing this experience and new lifestyle with all of you.

God bless and have a great day.

What's going on everyone,

My name's Thomas, I'm 20 years old and I'm a full-time student a Tennessee State University. I been lifting weights for about 2 years now and just recently decided to take it seriously. I played basketball in highschool and I still play from time to time. My #1 goal at the  moment is gaining mass and lots of it. I currently weight 195lbs at around 10% bf. I want to get to 215 at around 5-6% bf. I also want to get a lot stronger but thats on the back burner.

As far as my other stats go...

height: 5'11.5"
weight: 195lbs
bench: 330lbs
squat: 430lbs
deadlift:? a lil more than my squat

I'm 16, I don't have too much particular training experience, but Since about 3 weeks ago, I finally started getting serious about working out. My goals are pretty simple for now, I just wanna pack on maybe 10 pounds of muscle, and then get cut in time for school. (I wanna go into senior year looking sexy/buff)

Hi, my name is Bobby I'm 24 and just noticed this site and hoping it can enlighten me on some tips for better lifting as I'm stuck on the same routine and change it little my little.  So kind of looking for a possible change.  I'm 6'1 188 and have been lifting consistently for abour 8 years.  Main thing I hate about myself is getting rid of that stubborn lower stomach fat and My max bench press is 255lbs.  I take no explode which seems to motivate me in the gym and bmf protein.  So that is about me thanks guys.

Hi.

I’ve had a regular exercise routine since I was twelve years old.  I’m 33 now.  Of course, my routine has changed and evolved over the years based on my circumstances.  Recently I decided to ramp up my lifting and really strive to improve my performance.  I’m 5’7” and about 158 lbs.  About eight years ago, I was up to 172 lbs of lean muscle.  I think I’d like to get back to something around there.

Hello, I am Sandra, I am a 30 years old artist very interested in body art. I used to train a lot and my body's shape changed to a very athletic way but I overdid it and it happened that my body couldn't take it anymore. But now several years have past and I would like to shape my body again. I am actually working out following the Olivier Lafay's method and I must say I really enjoy it. I am here to understand the feelings of other people, what drives
them in such a way of life, and then understand if there can be a connexion between body-building and art as the way of living.

Hi Sandra,
Welcome to the board.
Loving the artist angle.  I am just getting back to ME after over 20 years of NOT doing my artistic endeavors.  Just invested in a huge painting package with tons of paint in all mediums, brushes, pallete, easle with drawer for stand up  and table top, paint/supply case and tool box, trowels, sketch books for the diff. mediums, pastels, pencil crayons, water color pencils, color wheels, canvases.....you name it its in there.  Not sure it comes with a big gesso can but I can get that local.
I got this all for under 400.........almost 200 paints, some cheap some reeves.......I cannot wait.  I never did get into it fully, just dabbled.
I began reading again too.  I look forward to learning more about you, we love new ladies on the board since there are a handful of us, we are overrun by boy cooties in this forum!!!!  hahahahahah

Hi my name is Matt. I'm in the military now and over these past six month's I have been hitting the gym here in Afghanistan. I weighed about 155 and gained about 20 pounds and noticed more definition. Now that I've reached my bodyweight goal of 175, I just want to keep lifting heavier weights and increase strength.

Hey all,

My name is Bill.  I've been practicing martial arts for the last 10 or so years, various styles.  I started out in Taekwondo, then I spent some time training in each of the following: Aikido, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Hapkido, and Shotokan.  The last 3 years has been spent focusing on MMA and Japanese Jujutsu.

I've been strength training regularly for the last 4 years, but never really bothered to try and put up any real heavy numbers.  Most of my routines focused on my own bodyweight.  I'm 6'1" and weigh around 235 lbs.  I'd like to get down to around 220 - 225ish.  A year or so ago a friend wanted to see how much I could bench, my one-rep max was 305 lbs.  I don't know what it is now, probably less.

Like I said, I don't care so much about how heavy I can lift so long as my body is in good shape and functioning soundly.

Re:Introduce Yourself - Sunday, August 10, 2008 8:39 AM ( #1005 )
Ok, my name is Kevin.  I am 38.  I have been working out on and off for over 20 years.  Wow that is longer then I thought.  When I first started to work out it was because I was playing football in high school.  I was working out for strength and size and all that.  My metabolism was like a streaker at a football game, fast, ha.
Then I stopped working out like that.  I figure working out that way was putting my body through stress it did not need to go through because i was not playing a sport.  I was just going more for and still am going for a lean approach.  However I do want to get cut again.  I know I need to drop my body fat down to about 17% to "Pop."  I am currently at 26%.  I am taking this stuff called leukic.  Will this help me drop body fat or just bulk me up.  Better yet, what can I expect from taking this stuff?
Right now I am 5'10 187.  I was 215 back in February.  But with my weight loss, I saw some muscle loss as well.  So I came upon this stuff.  Will this put the weight back on me, which I don't want, at all, or will it help me with body fat?  I am flying blind here so anyone that can give me a heads up will be a friend for life, ha.

Hey Guys, I bet you can't guess why im posting to this. Well anyway, I'm 19, workin 2 jobs at this point and I'm a full time student. I stay pretty busy. I lifted all thru high school but it was never anything serious. I actually thought it was a joke now that i look back at it. I started to get a little bit more serious my senior year but, broke my hand and all upper body lifts fell way down, so i focused more on track. Before I broke my hand at 17, I was about 160 and my bench max was 250. not terrible. I quit squatting my sophmore yr at 400lb max cuz i put 2 disks out in my back. I then used a press machine or something like that for my legs. After I graduated I got very serious put my bench back up to 250 ish that summer weighing under 170 and then strained my neck really bad. I wasnt sure What i did to it but i finally went to a chiropractor after a while of hoping it would feel better and he put it right back into place. That put me out for a little while then i got up to college and it was a huge jump for me so I was not able to lift as religiously as I would've liked. Currently, I've been back at lifting for quite a while now. Seeing some gains, Learning and everything. I see personal training in my hope to be near future and already feel very knowledgable about what I do. I'm a very good learner when it comes to lifting, the body and etc. I'm open to all advice.
TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR PAIN, YOU ARE STRONGER THAN THOSE WHO HAVE NONE.

Hello, I'm Chris McCoy.  I'm 19.  I am full time student at San State and I tutor autistic children.  I'm 5'11'' and 165.  I have been working out for about a year.  I look a little biegger but I pretty much look the same.  This past year I have cut out soda, fast food and sweets but this has only made me slimmer. I packed on some muscle but it feels like maybe I've hit a plateau or I'm not eating enough.  I eat about 5 meals a day.  I have had oatmeal and eggs every morning for the past year.  I take muscle milk after every work out.  I work out every other day, somes back to back because the next day my body doesn't ache, I lift weights for about an hour and 15 minutes then run for about 40 45 minutes on the treadmill at 6.5. My goal is to have a defined chest and upper body, but mostly the chest.  I would like to know what the best foods are to eat, anything except red meat and pig, in order to gain muscle and stay lean.  Also, if I should continue the way I work out and what types of exercises should I perform to see my desired results.

Re: RE: Introduce Yourself - Wednesday, August 20, 2008 8:19 AM ( #1009 )
My intro:

I'm 24 years old, 5'9" trying to get back in shape.  I used to post here many years ago, but forgot my username, so I re-registered.  I started lifting when I was 19, and took it semi-seriously (as in, never for competition, but in the gym 4-5 times a week) up until the beginning of this year when I messed up my shoulders in Iraq.  So I've been sitting around the past few months not doing anything, and woke up this morning with a sense of dread that I've thrown away everything that I worked for.  I'm starting college next week, so hopefully I will be able to balance schoolwork with proper nutrition and exercise.  At my peak I had 18" biceps (flexed) and put up 315 on the flat bench.  I have a goal to be 190 lbs and around 7% body fat.  I just measured myself...176 lbs and 14.5% bodyfat.  So that's the starting point.  We'll see how I do in the upcoming months.

Hi,
I've been a member since 2003, but stopped working out for the past 4 years.  I'm hoping to get myself back in the gym and into shape.
I chose to come back to this site because of the knowledge and the support from all the members.  It's odd how it feels like I've never worked out a day in my life.  I have no idea where to begin workout or diet wise.
I'll visit the site and get myself back in the know.
Thank you

Hi! Tavo here, 32 years old, i have been lifting for a few years now, i was doing almost everything wrong :(

- Few sleep hours (between 4 and 6 hours each night)
- Eating only 3-4 meals a day (with few protein intake)
- 6 to 7 days of training, 2 times a week each muscle group

And many more errors, but now thanks to the great info i have found here at DBB.com, and the personal experiences shared by the members, i am fixing all the wrong things i was doing, so thanks to all who make DBB.com.

Hey all,
I'm new to the site and already have gained a wealth of knowledge! Thanks!
Anyways, I'm 32y/o, 6'3" and 258lbs. I just started lifting again since highschool.
I've kinda found my body fat % is 29%. My goal is to be about 10-15% and drop

I bench 180lb
curl 70lb
leg press 320lb
182lb pec flys
Like I said looking to gain some definition and dropping the fat.
Thanks all.

Re: RE: Introduce Yourself - Wednesday, October 08, 2008 2:34 PM ( #1017 )
Hey!

I'm 28 and have been obese, pretty much, since I was 5 years old, save for when I was about 13-17 and played football and threw discus and shot put in high school.  Even then I was still a "big" guy, weighing about 240 but was really relatively lean, at about 18% body fat.

I'm 5'11", and currently weigh 263 lbs.  My max weight was 325 lbs. about a year and a half ago; since then I've lost the weight by cutting out ANY fried foods, no soda, hiking and hitting the treadmill at my apartment's gym at a quick walking pace (3.5 on this particular treadmill) in accordance with an exercise plan my doctor put me on to get my heart in good shape to start more robust exercise.

Since Sept. 1st of this year I've cut my carbs significantly and haven't had an ounce of sugar since then either.  It's not the Atkins diet, really; I've just been eating a ton of lean meats like fish and chicken with huge salads, though I do have fat in olive oils and sometimes creamy salad dressing.  I also eat a lot of eggs; boiled eggs are a good snack about two hours between meals.

Also since Sept. 1st I've upped it at the gym significantly, doing an ascending scale 3-set regimen on the multi-use machine there, starting with 10 reps respectively of benchpress, then incline, then shoulder lifts (I start with the #5 plate, then the #7 plate, then the #11 plate).  Then I move to 10 reps of butterflies and sitting leg extension lifts, then ten reps of pull downs, chest pulls, and full seated rows (I can max out the machine to the # 20 plate for 10 reps, which feels like a great exercise, hitting my whole body).  Finally I end with 2 sets of 10 reps on preacher's curls on each arm (#5 plate).  I can't get a good gauge for how much weight I'm lifting as the machine only has #s for each plate (small plate 1-5, medium plates 6-15, and large plates 16-20).  After the weight lifting I'll get on the treadmill at 3.5 pace (I'm still not able to run on the treadmill) for 20 minutes which puts my heart rate at about 160 sustained, or on the stationary bike on the "weight loss" pre-program for 30 minutes which puts my heart rate at 135 for the 30 minutes.

This week I mixed it up a bit with some dumbell work like a standing iron cross with the 12 lbs. dumbell in each arm, and a one armed standing row with the 45 lbs. dumbell.  I also did a set of 10 lunges (5 alternating each side) with a 40 lbs. dumbell in each hand (which was killer!)

I'm able to go to the gym for about 40 minutes, and I hit it regularly on Mon/Wed/Sat evenings.  Just since Sept. 1st I've dropped 40 lbs. , dropped 2 inches on my waist, my shirts fit again, and I've gained 1 inch on my biceps, which is so rewarding!

I hope to learn a lot from this forum; just in the first few threads I've read (the stickies) I've learned about doing more back exercises (like those rows I started doing) and leg exercises (the lunges I started this week).

I think I'll enjoy my time here!

Re: RE: Introduce Yourself - Monday, October 27, 2008 4:25 PM ( #1018 )
Hi all,
Name is Curtis and i'm Twenty years of age. Currently weigh in at about 150lbs, and am about 6'2". I'm tall and lanky, and I joined here to in hopes of documenting my weight / muscle gain progress, read and to learn.

I have always been very active and had fast acting metabolism, which is what has led to my stick figure size today. I ride a BMX bike, and have for over five years. I travel around a bit to ride different skateparks, and to go to different cities to ride the streets and what not. I walk a mile and a half to work, and a mile and a half back, and have a BMI of 19.3

I've yet to actually start training, but i've been getting ready for it by altering my diet to fit in more protein and calories, and doing the normal work out stuff at home (pushups, crunches, curls, etc). I am going to obtain a weight bench soon, so the day that gets here is the day I start really training.

My goal is just add some pounds to my frame, aswell as some noticeable muscle gain. My goal isn't to become overaly ripped or muscular, but I would like to have a body that looks atleast healthy and fit, and not lanky and too skinny.

With that said, i'll start reading more of the forums and get familiar with the place.
-Curtis

Re: RE: Introduce Yourself - Saturday, November 01, 2008 12:51 PM ( #1019 )
Hey guys... The name is Anthony. Living in Nashville, but originally from Knoxville.

I use to be a serious lifter from about 7th grade up through my sophmore year of high school. At the end of my freshmen year in high school I was benching 300lbs, squatting about 625lbs and weighed 200lbs.

Ripped my left hamstring. Ended up being a unique tear, where instead of actually the hamstring tearing, I actually pulled out a chunk of my pelvis bone, where the glut and hamstring connect at the pelvis. Doctor said its typically a type of injury gymnasts see, because the muscles are so strong and not flexible enough. Long story short. That was that... Didn't do anything for a few years, and got into rowing. Went from about 190lbs, up to 215lbs from rowing!!! Transferred universities, and couldn't row (no crew). So I got fat. Im now 25 years old, 5'10'' and about 240lbs. Though people are often shocked when they hear I weigh as much as I do and don't look nearly as fatty. Which, hey! Im okay with that.. Hell I weigh more than a couple of my friends that are 6'4'' and look much much much larger and fatty than I am and Im actually about 10lbs heavier.

My goals are to basically get the built bad ass look I once had, twice. While I want to trim down and get smaller. Im naturally a big stocky guy, and realize there are some genetics to fight there.

Ultimately, I want to define my chest, back, shoulders, arms, and stomach. I can easily get my legs back up to where they were. I know how to lift, I know what exercises to do for the most part. So I thought... But Im particularly clueless on ab work out routines. And while I want to get leaner and meaner, I dont have the time to committ to hard core body building. Though I've often considered it..  We're talking Im in the gym lifting anywhere from 3-5 days a week, alternating upper and lower body days, and trying to lift as intese and hard as I possibly can for a period of about an hour and a half a day.

Probably going off to Army basic this summer since Im finishing up undergraduate school in Decemeber. So I've been trying to do some cardio about three days a week. Though for a while I was doing it every day for about three weeks.

Basically, I don't want to be a fat ass and decided it was time to start devoting time to not being one.
