Hi i am 13 and started thinking about body building when my dad started really geting on my case about not being active enough i didn't really try because sports made me feel embarased and was never any fun and just takeing a jog felt like a waist of time but i would somtimes get on fittness sites to learn a little about body building and exersize. my parents still don't know about me wanting to be a body builder though and i have a hard time telling them stuff so i want to start geting into it a little learn important info so i can seperat true from false and start buying things when i am old enough like powders and saplaments while like i said Knowing trueth from false but i may have to tell sooner than i wanted because i am going to start fitnes plans from this site and maybe some diets. Oh and this is my first forum i have joined... ever

This n00b is welcomin you two guys.  Bulky Jr. don't worry bout being overweight, well worry about it, but if you work hard you can get in shape and you can get down to where you wanna be.  I was overweight for like 12+ years of my life so don't worry.  All I can say is if you keep workin at it and get  a plan that works it will work out good.

RE: Introduce Yourself - Wednesday, July 27, 2005 11:47 AM ( #305 )
I guess it's time to introduce myself since I have already made a few other posts...

I am 23/male. I started working out a month and a half ago when my wife decided for some crazy reason to buy a scale! I started out at the most I have ever weighed in my life: 262 lbs and 5'10" tall. I knew I had been putting on fat, but had no idea how much. So far I am down to 248 and I feel great about it. My goal is to get down to 215 lbs. by December. I have done "diets" in the past and have taken all kinds of pills (which gave me high blood pressure by the way. Now I take BP meds every night before bed ) This time I am have decided not to diet. This time it is a lifestyle change, no pills or other crap. Myabe some protien and a multi-vitamin, but that is it for me. One of my goals in addition to weight loss, is to get my blood pressure down to where I can decrease or stop taking BP meds altogether. (Have to get with my doc on that one)
I have always been a pretty big guy and have been able to lift quite a bit, so once I shed some pounds I want to get my strength back to where it use to be and work on muscle definition.

I guess that's it for me. Thanks for making me feel welcome so far.

a 25 yr-old amateur from Hampton, VA. picked up lifting about 3 years ago and i've been a casual lifter so far. i'm in good shape, but by no means huge or anything.
I'm starting to see the difference between the beer-belly dudes at work and in-shape me. back when I was a teenager, a lot of my friends were in good shape, but as you start to get older, a lot of people just let go and get large...and i managed to stay in shape so far. now, i'm planning on taking another step further in my fitness training and getting in to bodybuilding a bit.
glad to have found this forum.

Hi my name is James, I'm 22, I'm 6ft 1/2in about 186lbs. Very Little muscle mass. Body fat is probably somwhere around 20%. I have never really followed a workout program, I weighd 207 at 1 point, went on atkins diet for 3 weeks, and lost 30 lbs. Right now I'd say that I have the body of about a 17 year old. I know my matabolism works pretty well but I pretty much eat what I want, when I want it. I'm not really that active but I pace alot, so that might burn a few extra calories throughout the day. I'm confident that with the right advice and proper training that I can get to where I want to be. which is to lose about 15 lbs of fat and pack on 15 lbs of muscle. and I hope I can do this in 6 months time.

Mellis95-what pills made you get high blood pressure?....You should sue or something unless they stated it might happen...then it is in your hands whether to take them or not, you've started off good and you'll get even better, hope you achieve your goals.

I was taking Diet Fuel for quite a while (probably too long) and Xenadrine back when Ephedra was cool. I really would have no grounds to sue anyone There were plenty of warnings all over the bottles. I just thought it wouldn't happen to me.... All I know is that I was perfectly healthy until I started taking them and then after taking them for about 6 months (alternating between the two) I went to the doctor and had hypertension. Had it ever since.
So basically it is probably my own fault, but I am older and wiser now. I want to do things "naturally"

Hey everyone , Names Alex Webb (nickname noodle), 15 years old, live in London, England and as you can tell form my nickname, IM SKINNY! I am pretty active (climb twice a week, do Karate once a week, play football every day (or soccer to all you Americans) and cycle ALOT!)

Overall, my basic goal is to get some muscle all over, 6 pack, thighs, biceps the lot! However I don’t want to hit the gym too hard yet as I know this can be damaging for my age.

Well, that’s about it... Thanks!

Hey, I'm 17 years old and came here to gain weight and build muscle. I'm about 5'9" and weight between 115 to 120 lbs. I am a hard gainer. I can eat whatever and not gain an ounce. I use to mountain bike when i was younger but thanks to conjtrustion. I can't anymore. Plus my bike's too small for me now. Anyways, i'm hoping here I can actually build some muscle here. I mostly walk now but not much, about a mile or two.  Right now I'm gonna try to learn how to skateboard when the roads are fixed here. I mostly do now is on computer. Trying to do 3D objects and animations. Sorta what Animusic or movie productions do. Plus I like to swim but sadly, Our pool is now torn up and a swamp. Anyways, that's basicly me in a nutshell. I don't have any weights yet so I do pushups and situps. If anyone can give me tips please say and if needed. I'll put up some before and after pics. Hehe, well there ya go.

Hi I'm Farroll.  I'm 5'7"  and i weigh 190.  I'm new in bodybuilding.  I'm experienced as a lifter with powerlifting and all, but i'm goin for the physique and shows now.  Hopefully, this is a good place to get some tips.  First off, what would be the most reasonable time to rest between sets?  normally i wait 2-3 minutes.

Hi my names Dean I'm 27 and live in the UK, Ive just started weight training as I was extremely under nurished due to health issues, but in the last 3-4 weeks my weight has shot up from 10 stone 2 upto 11 stone 4 and my muscles have developed well due to muscle memory I guess as I used to be 14 stone 6 when I used to pole vault.
Ive not really got a set workout routine yet though or a set diet ive just been trying to eat more to put the weight on I would be very grateful if anyone could make suggestions (I am vegetarian too) and I'm just using free weights at the moment. Many thanks Dean.

Hi all,

G'day everyoone I'm Simon from outback australia. I am just starting out like a few here it seems. I'm 6'4 and about 204 pounds (need to buy some scales but that'd be pretty close) had to do the calculations, metric over here. I'm not very muscular at all, which i bguess is where most people start out. I've been doing a lot of reading and went and joined a gym this morning, going back tonight where they'll do my measurement's and body fat etc and work out a beginners program, i'll let you know how i go.

I'll be going to the gym thursday friday and saturdays as its the only days they're are open when im in town. i work away monday - wednesday. the guy i share with there has dumbell and a barbell bench so hopefully i can do some stuff while im there. anyways hello everyone, you'll be seeing a bit more of me.

Hey everyone, i'm Chris. I am 20 years old. I am 6'0" and weigh 210 pounds. I played football in high school and i was in the best shape of my life. I weighed about 185 when i was in school. I've been away from lifting for over 2 years in my life, and i'm ready to get back in shape and get my build back. I maxed out at 315 on bench and was doing over 600 with my legs. I've lost ALOT of strength over these past two years.(don't know what i was thinking) I am about to start back hard, lifting and running. I really would like to know what the best thing to take is? I was taking protien and creatine in school. and i noticed that the creatine just gave me like a puffy look.. i got ok size to me. now i'm looking to tone up. I'm about to get on a diet and eat right. A buddy of mine told me to take no2. I just need to know what some opinions are on what is the best, safe, stuff to take. Thanks for your time.

Hello.  I am a male  in my early 40's, stand a little over 6"1'. amd weigh approximately 233.  I have exercised off and on over the past 10 years but have never been able to find a routine I like.  For the last year, I have been using the Abs program offered by Men's Health.com.  It is a good interactive program that sets goals and generates a new exercise plan every day based on the results of your previous workout.

My priority is developing muscle over weight loss, however, I wouldn't mind dropping down to the 215-220 range.  The more persistend I am with my weight lifting routine, the more weight I'm able to drop.
I look forward to many tips and tricks.

Hi Richard, welcome to DBB.  I've found it a good place to get support and generally learn more while having fun with a group of people who know where I am coming from.  Mostly I think fitness and health is a DECISION.  Anyways nice to have you hear.

Hi All,

I'm Graham from Sydney, Australia. I'm 34 and have been training on and off since I was about 24. Well, more off than on since I was about 27 I'd say . Have started getting serious again in the last six months, so we'll see how it goes. Not really sure of my stats at the moment though I suppose I could estimate 5'6" 73Kg (about 160lbs) and something like 18%-20% bf. In terms of max lifts I have no idea :) I generally train with as much weight as I can handle and still come out breathing and vertical, though I keep enough of an eye on things to try to keep pushing things up. As an indicator for example I am currently working with 25-30kg dumbells (about 55-65lbs) "bench press" and 15-20kg dumbells (about 30-45lbs) on bicep curls - each for 3 sets of 10, usually starting light and working up until I can't quite manage the full 10.

Actually something I wanted to find out is how people quote the weights on the site. eg. when quoting max bench press, are you quoting just the weight of the plates or are you counting in the weight of the bar as well ? It's tricky enough for me always converting from lbs to Kg on the go without trying to work out if people are just talking about weights or the whole aparatus as well

Look forward to talking to you a lot.

I know, I know, us kiwis just get lumped in with your bloody big continent as far as the northern hemisphere is concerned LOL !!!  They say size doesn't matter (but any woman who agrees is lying - size does matter !!!) but I think when it comes to Aussie vs Kiwi then your size gives you the definite advantage.  But...

They made Lord of The Rings here so that says something about our beautiful country and last I heard there were bits of Australia down in the south east literally falling into the sea spontaneously !!!!

I think us "down under" types should all stick together though and some day soon the usa-types on here should come down on a group trip and we'd all have one helluva good time !!

RE: Introduce Yourself - Monday, August 15, 2005 11:59 AM ( #326 )
Hi friends.  Name's Jason, 29-y.o. male, 5'9", 160lbs.  I've always been pretty much a lightweight, and probably always will be.  That's OK, though, 'cause I'm not looking to get big.  Just want to get in shape and get back the muscle definition that I had when I was 19 and in the Army.  Drinking and working at a sedentary job (librarian) has packed on some unwanted pounds around the middle, at the same time that I've seen my major muscle groups wither.

On the road to recovery, though!  Doing cardio 3x a week, and weights 3x a week, since early June.  Lost 2" around the waist already.  My 2-mile run time is abysmal at just over 20 minutes, but it's coming down!  Currently working chest, triceps, biceps, traps, lats, abs, quads, and hams during weight sessions.  Biceps up to 13.5", flexed.  Quit drinking, too.  Who needs all those empty calories?

You know, one thing that's struck me as I've resumed a regular exercise habit is just how much bad and contradictory information is out there.  One guy says free weights are better, one guy says isolation machines are better.  One guy says cardio is essential to any bodybuilding regimen, one guy swears it'll waste muscle away.  One guy says that volume (low weight, high reps) is more productive, one guy says it's intensity (high weight, low reps).  One gal says that lean muscle mass helps burn fat, one gal says it doesn't.  One expert says you can't burn fat while building muscle, one expert says you can.  One trainer says supplement X is the best, another trainer says it's junk.  Seems you have to have a BS degree in exercise physiology just to understand it all, and even then, you might not know what you're talking about!

But I don't sweat the small stuff.  I run for my lungs and heart, and I lift weights for strength and to look a little bit better.  So far, both approaches have been working.  Just gotta keep it up and make it a permanent lifestyle change.

Wish me luck!  Happy lifting!

RE: Introduce Yourself - Thursday, August 18, 2005 10:50 AM ( #328 )
Hello all,
Well I am new to bodybuilding and at age 37 a bit late to the game. I am doing this to improve myself and to drop some weight. I also am doing this to help with a genetic back problem that will be with me the rest of my life. I was at 280# and 5'10". I played football in High School and worked on farms as a hired hand when I was young. My chest is 56" and my Biceps are 19 1/2". I am just trying to lose the weight and tone and get some mass but not to much. Just want to look good when I wear a muscle shirt when I go to the beach. I have lost 15# in 2 and half months. It seams I have hit a peak for right now so I am a bit mad about that.
So now I am back to making sure what I am eating is good for me and making sure my protein intake is right. I am not doing any supplements just eating alot if baked chicken, fish and some steak and egg whites. I am eating a 2200 to 2500 calorie a day plan and have been on that for the last 2 and half months. I workout with weights 3 days a week and have add 15 minutes of cardio to my weight days. I have added 5 day a week of core ball training for 30 minutes every night. I also do 3 to 4 days a week of Racquet Ball for an hour and half a day. So that is it for me and hope to hear more from the rest of you guys and girls here.
