Hey there! I'm a 21 years old girl. I've been pretty much active during high school (basket ball, soccer and flag-football - local to national levels) but got serious knee injuries. I had the *last* surgery in january and started some training for the first time in three years one month ago. I gained a lot of weight during these years and i'm now focussing on weight loss. Some stats: Height: 5'7" Weight: 193,2 lbs (i was at 199,0 on may 14) Waist: 33,5" ( i was at 35,5" on may 14) Hips: 43" (i was at 44,5" on may 14) Body fat: N/A.. probably around 30%... As far as i remember i weighted aroud 165 when I was 17 (but got more muscles than i probably do now and i don't want to build them up since i won't need them anymore). Training consist of 50 to 90 minutes of cardio (bike and elliptic mostly because theres practically no impact on the knee) 5 to 6 times a week. Eating consist of a lot of veggies and fruits, chicken and tuna, whole wheat bread products/pasta, low fat cheese and milk. I try to be 500cals under my needs every day. I think i can say everything is doing fine now. By the way, i found out that website searching for Guerilla Cardio...i've try it this morning and I think i'm going to start my work out with that more often. Thats it for now. Thanx for reading. sf.

Hey Everyone, My name is James, I'm 20 years old and have been in the Navy for almost 2 years now. I'm 176 lbs at just under 6ft tall. I started lifting again (since High school) about 2-3 months ago. Since then I've put 1 3/4" on my arms and added 70lbs to my 6 rep bench press. Just last week I met my goal of benching 225lbs 6 times so I am stoked. Eating right and lifting hard for 5 weeks really made a difference, I went home on leave after my 5th week of lifting and every single person who saw me commented on my gains. It felt really good, even though it is hard to see the changes myself. Since I've been back In Va. beach I have slacked off my diet, and my gains have reached a pleteau too. Sometimes I think if I have to choke down one more chicken breast or steak i'll kill myself, but this crappy eating is getting me no where. My biggest problem is my lower back, I have an old football injury that makes it very painful to squat, deadlift or even do abs sometimes. My range of motion in my back is horrible, I can't even touch my toes without bending my knees. So if anyone has any advice on how to work around a bad lower back I am all ears. Other than that, I'm glad to be here on this discussion board, and will look forward to the advice and motivation to help me reach my goals. Peace

My name is Justin. I am 21, currently weigh about 150lbs and i am looking for help gaining size (180lbs) I have been lifting since i was about 16. but have never been able to surpass 160lbs. I know very little about nutrition other than the very basics and am intimidated by supplements. I consider myself rather strong for my size (210 bench around 350 squat) but my muscles do not gain size at all especially in my lower legs. Any help including an eating plan or supplements that wont dissapate after use would be extremely helpfull!!! thanks.

hi everyone I'm new here and would like to learn some tips on how to get a great physic. 4 months ago I weighed 214 pounds but when my girlfriend of 8 years left me I decided to get in shape. I started dieting and have since lost 34 pounds (of body fat) I now weigh 180 pounds, but for the last 5 weeks have failed to shed any weight even though I've started training mostly jogging, curles and push ups. I only eat healthy foods mostly protein i.e. tuna and about 4 eggs a day in an omolette, (is this safe). I would like to loss at least another 14-20 pounds body fat ( I have no idea what % of my weight is body fat but it's about 20 pounds I think ). I train 5 days a week mon-fri nad do my curles using 14.5 kg dumb bells, I do 3 sets 15 then 13 then 10 with 3-4 minute intervals. then I do 3 sets of push ups using push up bars 15,13 then 10 I've been told I should do no more than this although I often do and feel fine. Can anyone tell me if I'm doing anything wrong or give me some pointers I want to consentrate on my chest and arms, but I am thinking about trying sqats, could someone tell me the proper way to do sqats as i dont know, and the muscles they work. please keep in mind I do my training from home as I'm not a member of a gym any other exercise tips would be welcome

The unreal is more powerful than the real because nothing is as perfect as you can imagine it. Only intangible ideas last. Stone crumbles. Wood rots. People, well, they die. But things as fragile as a thought, a dream, a legend, they can go on and on

Hello all. I'm 29years old and getting back into muscle building after 8years off and coming off of 1 year cardio training. A couple of facts about my routine: I'm on the Max OT workout. I'm not on a strict diet. I just watch what I eat a little closer, but still like occasional breads, pizza, beer, and cookies (the good stuff). I work-out 5 days a week and do 20mins of cardio plus weights everyday. (I take the weekends off). My goal: I'm not trying to compete, get abs of steal, or have >10% BF. I want big arms, shoulders, and chest (the stuff that sleevless shirts show) and increase my energy level.

Hi All. My name is Michelle. Age: 21 Height: 5'5'' Weight: 220lbs. I am interested in getting into bodybuilding. I'm currently working out with a personal trainer who makes many comments about my strength and I'm actually doing a high-intensity workout right now. Although I have the strength and muscle mass I'm having a hard time losing my body fat. I love lifting and working out, but I can't get my nutrition right. I also need to up my cardio but I'm so discrouraged I haven't gotten around to that. I was hoping someone on here can direct me to a good book(s) for beginning bodybuilders and something that I can begin to understand how to eat better and what would be most beneficial while I'm working out so hard. Does anyone have any ideas? My trainer told me that if I lost my body fat, my muscles are so dense and built up that they would already be pretty defined so losing the fat is my biggest issue. I'm about 32% body fat. My trainer is into bodybuilding himself, but has been doing it so long that he spouts things off to me that I don't understand yet. I need baby steps! Thanks!! Here's my stats as of right now....this is the lifting that I'm doing now, all ranging between 5-15 reps; Incline bench press - 75 lbs. Pec Deck - 80 lbs. Reverse grip lat pull down - 110 lbs. Deadlifts - 235 lbs. Bicep Curls (double) - 70 lbs. Tricep Pull Down - 50 lbs. Dumbell raises (don't know what these are called but they're for my shoulders) - 15lbs. each Leg Press - 580 lbs. Leg Extensions - 130 lbs. Leg Curls - 70 lbs. Smith Machine Squats - 150 lbs. Calf Raises - 210 lbs. This is what I ususally work out with my trainer...I'm not sure about other excercises. Any ideas would be extremly helpful! Thank you all so much!!!

Hi Michelle, my name is Jill and welcome to DBB. There is lots of good information and wonderful people here whom I am sure will help you with your queries. For myself, I've reduced body fat from 38% to 17% in 12 months by doing exactly what you are talking about - working with a personal trainer who knows his stuff, lots of cardio, lots of weights and tying down the nutrition. I do believe that the cardio and nutrition are the key to body fat loss and once I started getting into lower numbers in terms of body fat the weight training certainly showed I was growing muscle. Check out my Online Journal if you want to see how I eat and how I train (although I've not been filling it out the last three months but check out the six months starting about Nov 04). HOWEVER I am twice your age and that also makes a difference. At your age and with the right programme and eating I am sure you will achieve your goals. GO FOR IT !! Great to have you here. Regards Jill from New Zealand

Hi all - I just joined this site today and although I am a beginner to this forum, I'm not to the lifting world. I am a 46-year old father of 3, ages 16,8 and 7. I've been lifting for what seems to be forever but since Jan 2002, it has become my religion. I work out at home since January of this year, at 5am. I have a Power rack, Powerblock db's and over 450 lbs. of plates. I am 5'8", 210 lbs. I could probably lose 10 lbs or so but I'm happy with where I am. In early 2001, I was over 265 lbs. I lost the weight and then started lifting again. I don't want to go into the details but its enough to say that I was a fat pig cuz I hadn't worked out in over 5 years and I did nothing but sit on the couch. Now, I work out 3 - 4 days a week and try to get in at least 2 -3 days of cardio. I coach baseball, soccer and football for my kids and am constantly moving. I believe in abbreviated workouts. My lifting tends to last in the 30 - 40 minute range, but an intense 30 - 40 minutes. I go heavy often but believe in high reps for legs and shoulders. But I'll occassionally switch to lower reps, heavy weights. I don't do 1-rep max's. At my age, its not safe. But I can tell you some of PB's are 405 x 5 for squats, 315 x 5 for incline presses, 395 x 5 for deads. That's my story. I'll stick around whenever possible. I can get a bit busy with life and work but I'm willing to help and learn wherever I can.

Hey, My name is Zack and I live in South Carolina. I got into body building to improve my skills in Tae Kwon Do and to get me into shape before I train as a fire fighter in a year. I currently have been working out for 3 months and Im addicted to it. Protein shakes are my only suppliment. I've gone from 138 lbs. to 154 lbs since I started and have seen a very positive gain in muscle. I have been working out on my own at a local gym. and my name is dookie.

Just reply to this thread, and tell us who you are, goals and bit about yourself. Most of the posts in this forum are locked as it's a great place for the beginner to start and find some good information in this forum. But this thread up top is just to say *HI* so we can see new members. Hi. My name's Irfan. I'm from Leeds, UK. I'm 16, turning 17 in a few months. Goals. Right now, I'm like 6'0 and 260 lbs. I'm far too overweight. My ultimate goal is not to get thin, but just to build muscle. I'm a wrestling fan and as you know, all them guys are huge with big muscles. I look at them in envy... well, not really but you know what I mean. I really, really hope to find this website as a stepping stone to acheiving this goal. I have just started working out so I don't know the names any exercises. I don't take any supplements, but I intend to. Eg, protein or creatine. And finally, I'm a down to earth person. I'm not like them little 8-year kids who roam all over other forums. And what else? I really think this site will help me. It looks great.

hi, Jessica here. I think my body is ok, but it can always get better. I would love to learn about tips on how to tone the rest of my body, since I mostly just jog and do my legs/thighs/lower body. I would also like to see if there are any better ways of toning my lower body. Aside from that, I love to have fun, the beach, shopping, studying and working (inside joke). Any people who can help me with my physical self is always welcome to message me.

HI, I'm enjoying reading all the posts and progress people are making, keep up the good work! I'm Tony, a newbie here, I'm almost 30 and have recently started weight training again. I'm 5'5" and weight about 175 lbs, and have a 31" waist. I feel I'm in decent shape, but am working on increasing my lean muscle mass, and slowly decreasing my body fat. I generally lift pretty heavy, for me anyway, and do cardio after every workout, partally to flush out toxins built up during lifting, then a decent cool down period. I'm not back up to my maxes I had in high school, but am making some progress. Last Measurements Neck: 16 Chest: 40-41 Biceps: 15.5 Waist: 31 Thighs 22.5 Calves: 17 I will update as I make further progress. Tony

Hello....i started lifting first when i was in high school, about five years ago..during the ephedra/creatine craze of the time...i got fairly big for my age...benching about 230 at 150 lbs bodyweight....had about 10 percent bodyfat and worked out constantly...when college started..i got out of the habit and ended up gaining about 50 lbs over the years...a few hospital stays didn't help out much, but now i'm back to working out and as motivated as ever....even though I'm not in the best shape... 210 lbs body weight, 21.2 percent bodyfat Stan..

Well I am twenty two years old, and a student at a local tech. college in Georgia. As of right now my goals is to find a routine that will give me results for what I want. The biggest goal was weight loss and that has been achieved now I just want to tone up basically. That is the basics about me.

23 years old, going on 4 years in the Marine Corps Reserve (0311) and going on 2 years as a police officer. Just recently split up with girlfriend of 4 years and decided to pick up body building with all the extra free time I have now. Have always been in decent shape but decided to really bulk up. Started lifting heavy a month ago and am loving it, definitely the best stress/ anger relief I've ever found.
