Hi,

I'm from Malaysia and I am kinda new in bodybuilding (around 2 year experience). What I would like to do is to train my body's flexibility and get some mass in the mean time. Right now, I am taking Karate and I work out like for 2-3 times a week at my campus gym. My workout is done by body parts and I usually don't do supersets often.

The body parts I focus most is basically my chest and my arms. Mainly because my chest has too much fat in them and they look like breasts. I do benchpresses (20-30 kgs) to failure just to tone my chest. So far, no improvements have been seen. Is there any way I can work out to tone my chest that actually works? I am afraid of pushing up the weights and building it in case the muscle will push the fat up and amplify the 'breast'. I recently learnt from a gym partner that working out the bicep's peaks will not help the chest. How true is this? How can I 'unbreast' myself?

Thanks guys!

Unfortunately it sounds to me like your body has a favorite place for fat deposits. You cannot "spot reduce." What you can do is start a fat loss diet, which simply means creating a diet deficit by exercising and lowering your intake. There are plenty of threads in the Nutrition forum to describe how to do this. Welcome to DB!

i have to agree with Naviator. u can build strength with benching but weight training is really not going to do much to lose weight. u need to do cardio training. so i would say find a sensible diet program and do cardio exercises. like the treadmill. running, if u don't have a machine. and u should also try swimming if possible.

welcome to db.

I'm not sure I understand- But your partner's right, working out the biceps does nothing for the chest.

This could be a reason why you're not getting the gains you want- You really need to train every muscle group with the same intensity- It might help get rid of some of the fat you're talking about.
Other than that, working your chest, like the others said, will not get rid of fat on your chest- The same way that working your abs won't get rid of fat on your abs. To build muscle, you lift weights- To lose fat, you have to get on a proper nutrition plan, and do some cardio. Be sure to check out the nutrition forum, and maybe post something about how you eat there- You'll be sure to get plenty of info on how to eat to lose fat.

So I basically have to focus on more cardio and activities. Will I end up with flappy excess skin? Having gynaecomastia (man breast) is bad enough. Having a sagging one is worst.

The reason with me working out the chest is because I didn't want it to be saggy excess skin. In which I don't really mind having pecs instead. When I mentioned that by working out on the bicep's peaks it will not help the chest, I mean that chest workouts go out the window once i start on biceps after my benches. Why, I do not know. Doesnt sound logical enough though. But I was hoping that maybe some of you might have the answer to training the chest to lost the fat there. Like doing push ups or stuff...

Thanks guys!

Nope. Fat loss isn't acheived that way. Yes, you'll have to focus on cardio, but don't forget the proper diet either- Most of your progress will come from how you eat.
When it comes to your chest workout going out the window when you do biceps afterwards, I'm still not sure I understand- You said you hit your biceps AFTER your chest- If you're already done with your chest work, how can the bicep work affect it? Do us a favor, please tell us what a typical week of working out looks like for you, maybe there's another way we can help.

lol...
im not sure about the biceps and chest thing either... i guess its just a dumb theory my partner made up or something. But anyway, here is my basic weekly schedule...
Monday - Karate training
Wednesday - Gym
Friday - Karate training
I usually hit the gym like around twice a week. The other time i go varies and depends on my fatigue from the karate training days. I know thats not enough. But usually at my karate trainings i touch almost all parts of the body and it becomes quite hard to workout the rest of the body the next day as the soreness is still there. Any tips on helping me improve my training without actually giving myself too much fatigue?

Take what you call your man boobs and lose weight well gaining muscle that way they dont look bad (get flabby). The more muscle you put on without losing fat is just gonna make it worse because the muscle with just push the fat out.
