Intermediate overtraining?

Hi, So I've completed a basic full-body routine for a little over a month to get back into weight lifting, and I'm now looking at intermediate routines. I've seen a wide variety of ideas on rest periods, and intensity and so I have a question that hopefully someone here will answer. I'm currently looking at a 3 day split routine that consists of: Monday-Chest/tricep/shoulders, Tuesday- Rest, Wednesday- Back/Bicep/Forearm/Abs, Thursday- Rest, Friday- Legs, Saturday/Sunday- Rest. Is this effective enough training to get maximum gains? On the other hand I have seen another routine which won workout of the week for intermediate workouts on Bodybuilding.com, and it basically suggested working out everyday of the week so; Monday-Chest/Tricep, Tuesday-Back/Biceps, Wednesday-Shoulder/Traps, Thursday-Thighs/Calves/Abs, Friday- Repeat Monday routine, Saturday-Repeat Tuesday routine, Sunday-Repeat Wednesday routine. Now this seems like a crap load of working out and to me has the potential for overtraining. Does anyone agree? What do you guys think I should do now that I'm beginning an intermediate split?, and if I was to do the first 3 day split, could I lose 1 or two of the rest days, and begin the routine again earlier than the next monday to increase gains? Any help you guys could provide on the matter would be excellent.

Stick to the first routine or a fullbody routine would be better imo. Stay away from the second one as it seems to be way to much. you need your rest days.

You really have to go way out of your way to over train. It also goes with sleep deprivation, physical exhaustion and eating poorly. LT
