Influence of the coach...
-
Saturday, June 11, 2005 10:58 PM
I have a dilemma. I'm playing football for my highschool next year (I am going to be a senior) And I will be starting both ways (offense and defensive line). I am currently in my cutting phase and trying to maintain as much muscle as I can. But, the problem is the summer workouts. Having the knowledge of bodybuilding I have it pains me to see some of the stuff the coach makes us do. I get that it is supposed to make you stronger and faster in the game of football. But doing legs two days in a row...chest two days in a row..shoulders also, wouldn't that eventually cause overtraining? Not to mention I'm gonna have a crap load of weakpoints because we do not work out everything. I would go to the gym afterwards but I'm just too damn tired. What do you all suggest? Should I just do his plan...(which is from 10am-noon) and then go home/go to work, nap...and work out other things (arms...upper chest, etc) at night time? Any input would be helpful. Currently on day one, we have to do the following.. 1. Hang clean/push jerk 2. Bench 3. Squats 4. Romanian deadlifts 5. Punch Press 6. and I think I am forgetting one other thing but we end off on abs... Day two consists of... 1. Just hang clean 2. Deadlift 3. Overhead squats 4. Power Shrugs 5. Alphabet A-Z for shoulders 6. Bumper pushups 7. End off on abs. As you can see..lots of weak points...any suggestions would be appreciated.

Haha, many of us has experienced this. Its all about your choices Do not confront the coach about his routines, because he is the coach, he aint gonna listen to you, he'll ignore you, talk over you, and try to crack on you OUT LOUD. You got 2 choices, (1)either quit or (2)stay and keep shut. The thing aboiut a coaches routine is, it might be dumb and might seem like you are overtraining but it aint gonna hurt you, your body can handle it so dont worry about it. Like you said, you can just work the muscles that arent worked at home. You shouldnt have gone for the summer practices, you hardly do anything important anyway, its nothing requrired.

Alright lol...option 1 is outta the picture because they need me... I would have skipped the summer bs but the coach made it sound like it was mandatory... I'll just work out there whatever he says and work the pretty boy muscles at night...thanks 8pack.
