Hi my name is joe and im 16, i weigh 180lbs(about half muslce, half fat) and im about 6 foot tall. I have been benching for about 5 months now and i havent been seeing too much improvement. When i began working out, i was benching 140 about 6 times, 5 months later (now) im benching 185 8 times. During this period, i was not fully devoted to my work outs, like i would eat junk food a great deal of the time along with eating protein/carb meals with veggies almost every night, not get enough sleep and take a week off from working out here and there and i wanted to know if this is what is causing my lack of improvement. Maybe i am improving? Im not sure so i would really appreiciate if someone would help me out a little. Another thing, how much weight should i move up in flat bench/bicep curl a week? Or should i stay at a comfortable weight until my body gives me the OK to move up? I also do about 150-200 crunches a day but i have some body fat on my stomach and such and so i can only see my abs under light, does that mean i have abs and im doing a good job? or should i be able to seem them without light also. I also was wondering how much should i be able to put up once on flat bench according to me benching 185 8 times. Any help will be highly appreciated thanks!=]

Your already pretty damn strong for a 16 year old and it sounds like you know little to nothing about lifting (no offense). Also do you just do bench and bicep curls? That's what it sounds like, you need to start wokring your whole body. Doing 150-200 crunches a day? That's way to much, work abs 3 times a week (4 would be ok to imo) and do weighted crunches like 3 sets of 15-20 reps with weights. Also you can't really compare 185 8 times to your 1 rep max, it would be completely different for different people, i'd say 215 ish though.
Goals by end of 2009: Bench 205 Squat 255 ATG Squat Clean 185 "There is no elevator to success, you must take the stairs."

Oh haha well i do know little about lifting and i dont see why it is necessary to work your whole body if you only want gains in certain places. I usually do abs 4-5 days a week but i will try weighted crunches. Maybe i am not doing my regular crunches right if im doing so many? Also, i put up 225ish before without spotter and whenever i bench, its without a spotter so i guess i am improving. Thanks for the tips. :D

That coupled with your lack of commitment is the reason why you are not progressing the way you want to. I suggest that you ask connelly nicely for a good routine, and listen to what he suggests, if you are interested in reaching your goals, and actually learning something about bodybuilding .
