All this working-0ut, loseing weight, and eating rite has me very confused. First off a little about my currant condition, Im 56yrs, 100lbs over weight, I seen the doctor, my bloodpressure is high, my colesteral is 358, my glycerides should be no more than 145, they are 800, my sugar is a little over what it should be 6 is ok, Im 6.6!!! I just quit smoking 3 weeks ago but Im REALLY determined to get myself cleaned up and in good shape. I bought a very good rowing machine, and a bowflex machine, my goal is to loose weight, and get in shape. The doctor told me to cut out the carbs, sweets, and dairy products, I guess what Im asking is what is a good diet to eat while I work-out like crazy on my rowing machine, and whats a good weight trainning regiment for me, a beginner, on my bowflex? What foods are good to eat while Im working-out, yet good also for loseing weight? I've heard of people eating tons of cals while they work-out, and also eating diets with lots of carbs for stamina as they work out!! I just don't get it, I can't do any of that because I have to loose weight How is a guy who has to go on a sever diet to loose lots of weight supose to be able to work out as well. I apologise for my ignorance but I really don't get it. Paul

Hi Paul, I'm new here like yourself.. infact I was browsing for a decent health/nutritian forum... and read your post, thought id join up and give you my ideas... quote:
What foods are good to eat while Im working-out, yet good also for loseing weight? Forget foods that are 'good for losing weight' and worry about foods that are good for causing weight gain. What I mean by that is; foods dont make you lose weight in any great way - its the work you do with them. Obviously not eating cetrain foods would reduce calorie/fat/protien intake and interm you would lose weight but in terms of which food help you lose weight, don't really go down that route or you will be on diet pills in no time.. which is alright if thats what you want to do. Regarding your point about carbs.. the reason your doc told you to cut out the carbs... the way the body works (as I'm lead to believe anyway) is that when you use up energy through exercise or even daily routine your body finds energy first from carbs in your body, second by fat and third by protiens... so if there are loads of carbs in your body due to what you eat, when you exercise you are just burning off those carbs you eat.. not really breaking through to the fat... so if you cut out the carbs.. your body obviously cant use them for energy and goes to the next place it knows to look, fat! And bang.. you start losing weight.... once its used up all the carbs and all the fat it starts on muscle protien and you start decreasing muscle size, but doesnt sound like you need to be doing that. Hope it helps, its all just my opinion and knowledge so do please feel free to research and question what I have said. Regards,
