I have been lifting for about and two and a half years. About a year ago i started refering to myself as a "bodybuilder." I started in a small apartment gym that consisted of one stationary multi-exercise unit. I am 6'6" tall and at that time i was about 180 lbs. At this point is time i weigh about 260 lbs. I have never done any type of steroid. Over the years i have perfected my workout routine and ate everything in sight. I have managed to stay at 7-9% bodyfat the whole time. However i now realize that i know so much about lifting and so little about my diet. I want to try to take my body to the next level. Everything i read seems to be written for guys who are "average" size. I don't want to look like some guy on the cover of men's health(well mabye my abs). I know basic nutrition and what everything is i just don't have anyone to tell me how to put it togather. All my friends tell my to try cutting carbs and raising fat and listening to my body. Well, what do i listen for and how do i know my diet is working. Basically, im frustrated cause i want to look like jay cutler and thought that my fellow lifters would know best. I know that all the pros use drugs and i'm not in to that yet, i just want to be the best i can be. And, please if you want to reply but aren't SURE you know what you are talking about let me know or don't reply. Thanks...

Lord Byron: Phillip. Whether you are trying to gain lean mass, or lose body fat and develop cuts, you need to space your meals throughout the day. As a competitive body builder, and I do call myself a bodybuilder, not a lifter, I have dieted to go both ways, to put on weight prior to fat burning/cutting and the actual 12 weeks of contest prep dieting. The five daily meals only change in content. You should have a good mix of egg whites and some whole eggs, chicken, lean beef, lean turkey, fish, lots of vegetables, a limited amount of carbs (sweet potatos, brown rice), protein shakes (at least two a day) and plenty of spring or filtered water. As for supplements, creatine, glutamine and amino acids work wonders. I posted a lengthly article in the Post Your Own Articles thread called "Training For My First Competition At Age 61." If you care to read it, you will find how my diet changed as my requirements changed. You sound like a solid citizen, with a good head on your shoulders. You can be as ripped and cut as you want, without steriods. I won a bodybuilding Championship without them, and it was very satisfying doing it "natural." Anyway, good luck and welcome to DB.com
