Im always warmer than everyone - Thursday, August 27, 2009 2:37 PM ( #1 )
I feel like lifting/HIIT raises my resting body temperature.  Is that true?

Ill always be chillin in a room with other people and if theyre comfortable, Im really warm.  If they feel too cold, Im fine.  Its kind of annoying and Im always arguin with my mom about the AC.

I know what you mean, I'm the same.  I'm like that regardless of physical activity.  Is this a recent thing?

Thank your metabolism. As you get older it will slow and you'll feel cooler. Ever notice how old people are always cold and retire to Florida/Arizona? Metabolism.

When I've been exercising a lot, yeah the internal furnace heats me up.  And I have to sleep in just underwear, and sometime w/o a sheet over me or  I'll roast.  But, RS, in the winter do you find you have to bundle up or you'll shiver?  I get that and I attribute it to the low body fat I have.  But if that's the case, I would think you would have it even worse.  How are you out in the winter cold?

RS,
Yes I'm probably at least mid teens, so in BB circles I guess that's morbidly obese!  But compared to the general population, I would think I have a low body fat.  Interesting about the winter though or cold A/C.  I used to take the train to work and have to carry a sweater even when it was 100 degrees outside because the train A/C was so cold I'd shiver.  And I have a very fast metabolism.  Do you have a tough time sitting still?  A little ADHD like, hyperactive?  That's me!

Haha, I could picture you not sitting still, I mean look at all those posts.  One summer I took some classes in a building that was freezing, I wore a sweatshirt in there every day, but I get used to hot weather in the summer and like it at like 78 degrees minimum when its hot.  Hate when its under 70 in the summer, its horrible to go in some place and freeze.

Re:Im always warmer than everyone - Thursday, August 27, 2009 6:54 PM ( #11 )
what supplements are you taking if any?

Men generally have faster metabolisms than women, and generally have more muscle mass which also consumes energy. The more energy you are converting from food, the more heat will be lost in conversion. The faster you are metabolizing food, the more heat you will produce.

This is why metabolism increase as the body temperature decreases, heat is needed to keep the body at the correct temperature for enzyme catalyzed reactions in the body.

Another example is shivering. The body uses the muscles as a means of generating heat, which in turn uses tons of energy, which in turn causes heat production to keep the body in the correct temperature range.

I know my metabolism is real fast.  Even faster now with all the HIIT ive been doing.  And I eat a ton of food on top of it so thats making it even faster.

****.  I guess Ill just be grateful for how fast my metabolism is everytime Im too warm.

Yeah you also burn a lot of calories for a few hours after you workout as well. Digestion requires a lot of energy  so that is another factor.

Are you taking any supplements though? Ephedrine and caffeine will/can increase core body temperature.

Excellent post. I've been looking to change up my routine in the gym because I feel like I hit a wall with my training. I've only been hitting the gym hard for a couple of months and I've heard how important it is to switch up your routine periodically and "shock" your muscles into growing. I'm going to follow some of this advice. Is there a place where I can read more of your posts?

haha this is funny.

I am always hot. I mean I sleep with an AC to the point where I am cold in the middle of July. I sleep with a fan blowing on me in the winter...when most women complain how hot it is in the office...I hate their guts because they lower the thermostat and I am hot...haha I always mess with the temp because it gets too stuffy...so that is why they complain about it being cold.

Im almost the same way right now...I get so hot so easily it is very uncomfortable most of the time.

I sweat very easily, and when I do its like a shower...

I have to sleep with very little on, and have a fan blowing on me just so I can get comfortable enough to fall asleep.

Its really rather annoying. And when I was younger my temperature was usually 1 degree lower then most peoples. /shrug.

I don't know... my body is really good at regulating it's own body temperature... I am usually warm, but I don't have air conditioning, at a lot of place I inhabit at work,  Kung Fu, or home. So I get desensitized to heat, past 94, and you have a very cranky Hardway, but anything under that I can adjust to (a lot better than most, if the humidity is low my upper limits even higher). Winter time, I am warm and toasty... more often then not. I layer (full long johns and all... I can wait til it gets cold again) but almost never wear a coat. But my metabolism is not lightning. I haven't worn anything to bed in like 15 years...  winter, spring, summer or fall.

Nothing?  Because I find if I don't wear underwear, I can't sleep for some reason.  Is that wierd?  It's like at least a LITTLE part of me has to be warm and snuggly!

I think you'll also notice you're much, much warmer when you're eating in a surplus, especially if you're taking in more carbs.  Some of the excess energy the body will try and burn off as heat, so that can cause this.  Then when you diet, you might find you're cold a lot.
