I need an energy boost!! - Thursday, April 22, 2004 9:36 AM
Does creatine give you extra energy to go through a workout?? When I first get to the gym I'm so tired and just have no energy. I fight my way through the sets and when I'm done, I do feel good about it. But I'd love to have that extra boost when going into the gym to really get a great workout.

Can anyone recommend anything?? I don't want anything w/ ephedra. If this is the wrong forum, sorry in advance.

Thanks for the help.

Creatine doesn't have a stimulant effect like caffeine would before actually lifting, but it does help you during a set to help squeeze out all the reps possible.

I agree with Nick. The creatine is awesome for the during workout little extra. You will need some sort of power drink to get you pre-pumped. Target sells a few energy drinks in their fitness section (Don't remember the brands). M&F always has ads for energy drinks. Worldwide makes some high energy drinks that I have heard good things about. VPXsports.com also has some energy drink, but they also advertise them as fat-burners, so you should take a look and see what you think. I don't know if it is an issue for you or not, I would try to stay away from the high sugar count drinks. They will give you the quick boost, but if you don't use the sugar fast enough it will add to your BF.

I agree. Motivation will pick you up quicker than any supplement on the market. Visualize your lifts in advance. Picture yourself 6 months from now. Get angry at the guy that cut you off in traffic. Anything that will motivate!!! Take half an hour before your workout to pump yourself up with music, video games, sports... whatever gets your adrenaline pumpin.

Well EAS Kickstart has been getting a lot of play lately. Essentially it seems to be just caffeine, sugar, choline, and tyrosine in kool-aid. It might be what you are looking for.

BTW: I have no doubt you can find it cheaper online at some site other than the one linked to...

Carbs.. or some of the methods suggested here. Creatine is good for power and strength.. to push you past those last few reps. At least that's been my experience. The feeling of strength.

If you are low on energy, you might try getting a protein shake with some carbs and taking that 20-30 minutes before you hit the weights. Or just get a lean protein source and some real carbs..

There's plenty of stuff on the market.. and then there's just real foods too. Just sounds to me like you have depleted energy from the day and just need to get that meal in 30 minutes before you hit the weights.
