I think everything starts in your nutrition no matter what your long term goals are. It is as simple as you eat healthy, you get more energy to be able to do what you want for the goal. If you want to run it will start with healthy eating, if you want to weight lift same thing. How are you eating now and are you tracking your intake, such as calories, fats, carbs, and protein?

Personally I am 25 and up until recently never could not understand why I could really do what I wanted, I could run, I didnt have the energy to lift, and basically sat around all day. I also couldnt understand why I kept gaining weight. I had a medical problem that made me stop all high sodium food. With that I stopped fast food cause the french fries and others are horrid in sodium, once I did that I started feeling alot better and look into better eating, I have been managing my intake for about 3 months and dont have the cravings or pains alot of the other diets do. I feel as if I have a new chance in life and I am in control of myself. I noticed the trick is watch the quality of the food you eat i.e no McDonalds triple cheesburgers and fries w/soda , and I watch the quantity of food I intake, it really isnt as hard as it sounds, after the first week you will learn very quickly what you can eat and how much, and eventually it becomes a healthy habbit.

RE: gzinkl.
My goals are not to be the biggest most muscular person i just feel that im at the age where i should be thinking more about my health and fitness.
My aim is to lose weight firstly, i am 6ft and 18 stone now but dont look it and i do have quite a muscular shaped body (if that makes sence).
When i have lost a few stone then i can think about building more muscle.
Realistically i would like to lose about 3 stone overall and just to have a cut healthy body.
I hear my friend Dae_Light all the time talking about building muscle and bulking etc. But his diet is something like 6 meals a day and working out at the GYM 4 or 5 days a week. Before I can work that into my sqedual i need to slim down and become more healthy.
Again thanks for your coments guys

RE: Coop
My diet is obismal. seriously. Im literally starting from scratch. I just eat what i want when i want. no veg, no fruit, nothing. Unfortunatly i dont track my intake so i dont have a clue wot kind of rubbish im putting into my body. I recently applied for an apprentaship in Engineering so once that is up and running i will have money to buy the food i need and join a GYM.
To begin with i just need the ABC of getting healthy.

There are some great forums on this site to tell you how many calories you need daily. For now if I were you I would at least try to cut back all the fast food and soda. That alone you will notice a difference. Those were for me the most difficult things to give up, but once I did it, moderating/cutting other bad things was alot easier. Do you like fish or chicken? This may be a good start as well.

diet and nutrition isn't the most important thing at all.

u can train and have gains without a good diet and if your nutrition is not perfect.

u would have better gains with a good dietand if u eat well, that's all.

. . . but nothing will change your health and overall well-being than getting the diet in shape.  You'll hear it over and over again:  "when I ate junk all the time, I felt bad; when I eat right, I feel great, energetic, etc."

And nothing will impede your progress on an exercise regime than a diet not in tune with your body's needs.  Alas, a personal experience kind of thing! Smile

Sounds like a great idea. The first place to start for any diet, no matter what your goals are, is to find out how many calories your body needs to reach those goals. Check out this link-
http://www.discussbodybuilding.com/How_Many_Calories_Do_You_Need_Calorie_Calculators_Includes_Quick_Spreadsheet_Too/m_45013/tm.htm
Use the info in there to find out how many calories your body needs. Then we can start working out a meal plan for you based on those needs- You can use Fitday.com to find out the nutritional value of most foods, to find out how far off your caloric mark you are right now.
