So how much is membership?

ok...had to get that out of the way. But seriously, no one can give you a serious answer. We dont know what you look like, your stats, goals or anything.

Just know that your diet is going to be a big part in shedding the weight. Cardio is good, but its your diet that will be the deciding factor.

Both. Do a lot of cardio, and lift a lot man. Without your stats or pics, we cannot give you an accurate plan.

Lifting, diet, and consistency is all you really need.  Doing heavy compound lifts will benefit you much more then cardio as far as muscle building/fat loss is concerned.

Lifting heavy weights burns a lot of calories but it's still wise to do cardio for your (ha) cardiovascular health. When you're carrying around that much weight you need to strengthen your heart so it can handle the intensity of your workouts. Your diet will dictate your weight loss. Your training will dictate the shape of your body as you lose fat.

I would slim down before worry about building muscle (cardio) and then build up some muscle mass. For now focus mainly on a great diet and cardio. Good luck with the gym!

I read some study in the past that showed people that did cardio and lifted weights had a more significant weight loss than did the people that just did cardio.  This will also help sculpt your body as you lose weight.  I say get a healthy diet and do cardio as well as a lifting routine.  Good Luck!

if he wants to burn fat, he needs to do more cardio, with less weight training.

i'm not jumping on you; you're information is good.  but "alot" means different things to everyone.

OP, you just need to cut your carbs down, and research HIIT.

I've been doing the MAX-OT. I just started and it's 12 weeks long and I'm 3 weeks into it. I read where larger muscle burns more calories so I decided to focus on muscle building first. At the end of my 12 weeks I'm going to switch to a 6 day workout with 3 days cardio and 3 days lifting. Cardio one day and weights the next. I'm pretty sure I'll be doing interval training for cardio. I guess we'll see how my plan goes.

cardio should be a priority before anything else because at this point you want to get to around 20% bodyfat, yes muscle burns fat at a rate of roughly 50 calories a day per pound, but you will lose more, more quickly if you stick to mainly cardio.  I would weight train as well but i think losing the excess is a priority especially since you have diabetes

Jan 1st I was 320lbs. Doctor told me I was close to becoming Diabetic if I didn't do something about it. Currently down to 275lbs. Saw my Doc on thursday, was happy I lost 8 pounds since April. Cardio and Lifting, along with a managed diet of GOOD foods, will help take it off and keep it off. LONG term health is a LONG term goal.
