I realized yesterday that I'm completely happy while I'm all sweaty at the gym. It's like, I just got done doing a good, heavy set of bench presses, and after I stood up I was the happiest I was all day. I had a really bad day yesterday too. I don't really lift to try and 'gain mass' anymore, and I'm not really ever trying to get cut either. In fact, I don't think I really do it for looks at all anymore. I'm always trying to increase my lifts because it's built into my routine to add weight every workout. But if sometimes I'm not feeling up to super heavy lifting, I'll lower the weight and just do sets of 15 or something. So I don't necessarily have a strength goal anymore either. Then again, I never really did have a particular goal other then to just get as strong as I possibly could. So since I really don't have any goals, I don't understand why I still lift other then the fact that I just love it. Anything that's been bothering me during the day all goes away while I'm in the gym. It's pretty awsome. I never realized that it was possible to actually love doing something so much that's so good for you. I've been working out for like 2 hours at a time lately, and I don't mind one bit. Everything else in life basically has to be worked around my gym schedule. It's pretty cool.

I think a lot has to do with the type of training I've been doing lately. I do strictly barbell work with the exception of pull-ups/chin-ups (which is basically the same thing as grabbing a barbell) and some minor ab stuff, which I hate! I do nothing but the basic big barbell lifts now. I don't even use dumbells anymore. The addition of power cleans to my workout added to this feeling. It's something about moving around heavily weighted barbells that makes me feel like a friggin monster. I don't get the same feeling from dumbell or any isolation work, just barbell work. It's something about looking down at a bar with some 45 lb. plates on it, gripping onto it, and moving it from point A to point B that makes me euphoric and 'one with nature', lol. Dumbells and isolation work just feel like 'exercise'.

Dude, you should go into powerlifting. A. you love barbell work/compound shxt and hate isolation work B. You hate ab work lol C. you workout 2 hours at a time with barbell stuff. seriously, get some creatine, eat like a fat bastard, squat, deadlift, bench, clean all day and train for a meet. put on some serious pounds. sounds to me like thats where you're at. but its me, and noone takes me seriously lol

For a while there Tommyboy I considered powerlifting, but that's something that requires LOTS of dedication and time. I know that I wouldn't be that into it after awhile. If anything I would do olympic lifting, but that takes the same type of time and dedication, which I don't have. I mean don't get me wrong I DON'T skip workouts or meals, but I'm nowhere near the level I would need to be at to become a dedicated powerlifter or oly lifter. I just do it for for pleasure anymore. Ya, maybe it is the endorphins that I'm addicted to Silverfox. Nothing beats the feeling of doing 4 heavy deadlifts, then looking in the mirror at yourself right before you're about to do the 5th and final one. I scare myself sometimes. And power cleans just make me feel like a supreme athlete. I start to see stars after a good heavy set of those bad larrys.

Going to the gym is my favorite part of the day. Well, I also know like 90% of the people there, so that helps. But, after I'm done and drinking my whey shake, I just feel so much better. The rest of my day is so relaxing, I love it.

Particularly with my job, it's hard to get 100% out of the gym work I do externally in the kitchen etc and the hours are long. Often feels like the phrase ''weighting in vain'' -probably what I see people doing everyday at my gym.

I think I just decided about 20 seconds ago to forget about iso excersises and just get back into the basics. Bench (decline, flat, and incline), deads, squats, cleans, etc. etc.... I feel better already. Oh, and pull-ups...love those things.

That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic -- on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg -- or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God: or else a madman or something worse. You can shut Him up for a fool, you can spit at Him and kill Him as a demon; or you can fall at His feet and call Him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about His being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.

cleans just seem so jerky to me. like.. half of the lift is a JERK. which to me is worthless. i guess that's why i don't do them right now. saw something funny last night when lifting. gotta share We were doing bb shoulder press.. and I look over on the flatbench, and there are 2 guys. they are decent sized, but not really cut or anything special IMO. so his partner and himself load up the bb with 3x45 lbs plates (315 lbs)... and i'm thinking "yeah right, here we go.. the guy with the ego and the bad form" and sure enough. one guy lays down on the bench, and lowers the weight down.. BOUNCES the damn bar off his chest. At this point, his entire back is arched way up in the air.. his BUTT is NOT touching the bench. it looked downright painful. the only thing touching the bench was his shoulderblades. And... to make matters worse, the bar was SIDEWAYS. One side was a GOOD FOOT higher in the air than the other!! i was thinking in my head "YOU STUPID MORON.. i hope you break your back and come to the hospital i work at. keep doing that". and one of the trainers was sitting there watching them and smiling and i think even approved or applauded. i hate stupid people. i wasn't impressed, and i gave both of them the look of "wtf.. go to HELL." and rolled my eyes

Nah, the first half of a power clean is a deadlift. The difference is that the bar is supposed to accelerate throughout the entire lift. It starts slow and gets faster as it gets further up. Power cleans make your deadlifts better and stronger. Excellent exercise! Ya those guys sounded like turds. Even still, I wish I could bench 3 plates even if my form sucked.

(granted.. my goal is 315, yes it looks impressive.. but i'm not going to sacrafice my form in order to impress. cheating gets you no-where) i bet you money that they wouldn't have been able to

Ya, I guess I would have had to have seen it. I figure that if you're laying on a bench, and you bring the weight down to your chest and push it back up unassisted then you benched it. My form is pretty decent, but I do tend to bounce it off my chest sometimes.

oh. well... the bar was literally SIDEWAYS. he looked like he was about to fall off the bench. I would say that parallell to the ground, the barbell had a good 30 to 35 degree angle.. and he wasn't moving. anyways.. nuff about that. oh.. bri, got another story for you haha this happened yesterday too i was warming up for squats and checking my form (you know me and my knees ). I was squatting down with NO BARBELL OR WEIGHT at all, with my hands up in the air like i had weight there. When at the bottom, i was checking where i wanted my feet to be, and looking at my knees to make sure they were out, and lined up with my toes.. and i start to push up. Next to me is this old asshat of a guy, who decides he wants to feed his ego haha. As I'm coming up he says loudly "HEAD UP, CHEST UP!" If i was still on my prohormones.. i would have jumped all over his ass. i would have looked up and been like "WTF, you are doing quarter squats, with the SAME AMOUNT OF WEIGHT I"M DOING FULL SQUATS with!! STFU and mind your own business NEWB!" instead.. i ignored him, and finished my form check. grabbed the barbell, and starting squatting.. taking my ass to the ground. He just stood there and watched like "oh... wow, that's low" and all the while i'm thinking in my head "don't EVER tell me what to do mother (@#&$*#. " he could have maybe suggested, but instead mr. HIGH AND MIGHTY know-it-all pissed me off. that's ok though.. that was some great motivation for squatting. my butt was so close to hitting the floor. fun times.

HAHA, ya I get people saying that to me all the time. "Wow you think you're deep enough with those squats?" I try to explain to them that it's THE way to squat, but they don't listen. They just go on and do their quarter squats. I hate it when people tell me to put my head up during squatting too. It's like DUDE I'm trying to use my friggin hamstrings here and protect my knees by doing low-bar, full-squats. I'm not doing high-bar, quarter squats that put 100% emphasis on the quads. In that case, ya, head up would be fine. I just smile though, and continue to keep my eyes down. Lol, I'm not as much of a cocky-d***head as I seem. This is just stuff that I think in my head when people try and tell me how to squat. I just smile and don't listen to them. I studied these damn squats for a long time now, so although my form may not be perfect, I know the mechanics of a squat better then most people in my gym.

I'm trying to stop from doing that. locking the knees when standing = NO NO!
