I bench 180 & need to do 185 tomorrow! What can I do?

Is there anyway I can increase my strength were I will be able to do this? I hit 180 today at school and want to hit 185 tomorrow for bragging rights (and yes I know 185 is not a lot) What should I do, eat, drink, take vitamins anything I need to know!Smile

Bet your going to have more troubles benching 180 tommarow then you did today. Because your benching 2 times in a row your muscles will not be recovered and your doing maxing.

if he only maxed out, he wont have trouble doing it tomorrow.

The best thing that will get you to do 185 by tomorrow is your mind. If you go there believing you can do it, you will get it

First of all, like Andy pointed out, it's not a good idea to try your max two days in a row- Working any muscle two days in a row isn't a good idea, especially at such heavy weights. When you attempt your one rep max, you're pushing the muscles to their limits, which is a dangerous enough game. Don't temp fate by pushing too far- 8pack's most likely right too, you could go hit the bench again tomorrow and most likely come away without an injury- But you're damn sure increasing your chances of getting hurt by chancing it, and it's definitely not a habit to get into.
How about this- Wait until next week, and then change up the way you warm up- If you're not already warming up like this, I can almost guarantee it'll increase your max.
Two light warm up sets, 100 pounds or so, ten reps each, rest two minutes in between.
Rest two to three minutes
One set of six at 140 pounds
Rest two to three minutes
One set of three at 160 pounds
Rest two to three minutes
One set of one at 180 pounds
Rest three to four minutes
And now try for your new one rep max of 185. You might find it easier than you think- But like I said earlier, wait a week before trying it out just to be on the safe and smart side.

It's 5 lbs.

Go for it.

You only have to do it 1 time. But if tomorrow you are pretty sore from today, that will affect it but not for what you want to do.

If you can wait, take cpl's advice. If you can't, I personally don't see 5 lbs being that big of a deal if the lift you did today was strong and 100% all you.

NO No no!!! I didnt do a workout lol. My muscles isnt tired or anything I was in the weight only 8 minutes (before the tardy bell ring) and didnt even do ten reps. I was going to workout my triceps, but they might be tired tomorrow. I'll take some vitamins that should help.

No I didntSmileSmileSmile I hit 180 but I just could not control 185. You can tell when you lift it off the bar. My triceps was already flexing at their max before I put the weight on my chest. I could not get it more than 6in off my chest without saying "get this ****". But I have a lot of confidence next week I'll do it. 8pack, how much do you bench?

lol, drink a red bull...it might be all in my head (probably is, but it works), but red bulls do wonders for me...expecially when i bench

I made this post 10 days ago. And thats how long it took me to add five puonds to my bench. On to 190!

i bicep curl 500pound each hand
bench 1500 pounds
and of course i leg press 5000


keep in mind if you don't believe me that this are all one rep max

u r right man. i m stronger then that. now i bicep curl 650 pounds each hand.

2000pounds.

I leg press 10000now.

These are all 1RPM.

i m hoping to bench 3000 and curl 800pounds(each hand) by the summer.

If you're doing any serious lift, ALWAYS get a lift off for bench, ESPECIALLY if your maxing. Why waste the energy? It's not like that lift off the bar is building any muscle, but it could mean the difference in getting that rep!
