I want a "swimmer's build"! - Friday, May 09, 2008 3:44 AM ( #1 )
Hi, I'm new here so I'll go ahead and introduce myself.  I'm 21 years old and going into my 4th year of college.  I'm 5'11'' and ~130 lbs.  I haven't really had any form of exercise since I got to college, and I don't eat particularly well either.  However, with any goal I set, I tend to be very "hardcore" toward achieving it, pushing myself and spending lots of time/money on it.  So... I want a "swimmer's build" (and a few more pounds)!

I've read some things and asked for advice, but some of what I hear/read is conflicting.  What should my exercise/swimming routine consist of?  What should I be eating?  Should I use supplements/protein drinks?  I'm very new to this so any advice would help.

Edit: I want THIS:

Build a tad bit of muscle (bulk) then cut to a really low body fat percentage. You can read up on this site how to do both by searching.
Everytime I get on this forum, I get a craving for peanut butter.
18 yrs.
180lbs.
BF% N/A, estimated 17%

ON 100% Whey, water and a whole lot of food!

Olympic Swimmers Body will spend 4 – 6 hours a day in the pool and most of these will also do dry land work.  This includes a weights and other cardio.

If you just want the body shape (rather than being a great swimmer), you should concentrate on weight training to get the “high level of muscle tone with a lack of bulk” (Source: www.wisegeek.com/what-is-a-swimmers-build.htm).  This must be combined with cardio like swimming to reduce your body fat % and reveal the muscle beneath.

I used a program (www.TheSwimmersBody.com) which helped me to focus.  I’m sure there are other programs out there too, you just need to think about what it is you really want to achieve, and think how much work you are willing to put in.  Remember why you are doing it!
