I need more energy from my diet. - Saturday, July 11, 2009 5:26 PM ( #1 )
I thought I would start another cut to specifically target the last 10-15Lbs of fat that I did not get off the first time. I have gained a lot more experience and knowledge since my last "cut", if it can be called that. I have been measuring all my fruits and vegetables, measuring my olive oil, measuring everything that I can, sadly, I can't weigh it because someone hijacked my scale... kind of like that one guys stapler.
I don't have set in stone meal times, but I eat every 2-4 hours. I eat when I feel hints of hunger and I eat relative to the amount of hunger and time of day. My meals are about 300-500 calories per meal, morning and workout times getting more calories, I get 4-6 meals in the day from breakfast till bed. I scale calories depending on how much I have eaten in the day.

I am ~163-165Lbs @ ~14%-15% bodyfat. I have calculated my calories to be 1800-2200 for losing fat, based on my current levels of activity.

Morning meals contain
Protein: boiled chicken or four boiled eggs.
Carbs: grapefruit, strawberries, blueberries.
Fat: Olive oil, only if I ate chicken.

Mid day meals contain
Protein: boiled chicken or four boiled eggs, or two tins of tuna, or cottage cheese
Carbs: 1 cup Asparagus, 1 cup roccoli,  1 cup Celery
Fat: Olive oil. only If I ate chicken.

Evening meals contain
Protein: cottage cheese, or boiled chicken, or four eggs
Carbs: 1 cup Asparagus, 1 cup roccoli,  1 cup Celery
Fat: Olive oil. only If I ate chicken.

A few thoughts have been going through my head about why I don't ever get energy from stuff like oatmeal or vegetables. Either the food is too "thermic" for me, or the foods don't trigger enough insulin to get food into the muscle. I did eat around 10,000 calories of macaroni and cheese, daily, for a few years when I was much younger, no physical activity either, so maybe I shot myself in the foot.
I am experimenting with myself on the subject of fat loss. My diet is strict, there are no cheats meals at all. I started this experiment last Sunday and the first week is nearly done, the first two or three pounds are off, whatever they were, and I look noticeably leaner in the mirror.

Now for the problem, I have no energy, none, zip, zero, yesterday was low, today I'm empty! I added more carbs on Wednesday from fruit and vegetable sources but I don't think it helped. I experimented with fasted cardio this morning and I sence that I will not be doing that again for a very long time. It took about five hours and two-three meals for the "to-failure" feeling to finally leave my left shoulder, the right one cleared sooner.
The worst part, I got trapped under the bar today! I had to call my mum out of the other room to help get 240Lbs off me!

I generally lived on cereals, scrambled eggs in butter, etc, but the food I'm eating now should still provide more energy than this! I've been around 1500 calories on my last cut (big mistake) and my energy was never this empty, I was heavier then too!

You need more than three meals.

Eat 0.5g of carbs for every kilogram of bodyweight every 2 hours, or as close to that as possible. Especially post-workout.

I do eat 4-6 meals per day, see first post, end of first paragraph. I was listing the types of foods for the part of the day, don't think fruit is wise
for dinner when the goal is fat loss.
160Lbs is a bout 72 Kilos, so that is 36 carbs per meal and I come up short on that when I have chicken and a salad, or mid day - evening meals, but I exceed it in the morning meals.

Don't want anymore salad so I guess I will add some grapefruit or blue/strawberries to my current salads later in the day to pick up the carbs.

Many thanks MVP :)

-edit-

I added ~25g or so of carbs to my breakfast this morning and my energy levels picked up significantly, combined with some fresh brewed bitter coffee, well, I haven't felt that barbaric in a long time.
